I have a L26 that i'm trying to get started. Problem is that i've ripped out all the dash and wiring, so i cant just turn a key. I got a remote starter, and can get it cranking. Petrols not a problem. I connected a wire from the +ve battery terminal to the +ve terminal on the coil, but i cant get it to fire. I've left the other wires from the coil to the distributer (points). I would have though that with power to the coil and the starter was all an engine needed to get it started and running. What should the negative coil terminal be wired to? Anything i missed? Its from a parts car. I want to work out what condition it is in. Looks like its had some work done to it. It …

Is somebody can tell me if the optional fan shroud on the 72 z was metal or plastic and if there is numbers stamped somewhere. I bought sometimes ago a used shroud that is supposed to fit this model and is all metal. Also, I am looking for a splash pan. Was it an option too or a standard item? Any help appreciated. Richard

Alright, getting a 280Z with EFI tomorrow, and I'm looking for some info about the EFI system. I know it's got the same bosch EFI as my 83 celica, but I'm wondering if nissan used a different AFM and such. Any info would be great .

More questions folks - In an effort to cool underbonnet temperatures, has anyone ever heat-coated their INTAKE MANIFOLD as well as their exhaust headers?? Is it possible to heatcoat the intake manifold, or is there some reason I should avoid it like the plague?? Seemed like a good idea to me to further cool my fuel flow and carbies. Cheers :classic:

Hi, Currently running a 77 L-28 with and E88 head. I just picked up a 83 280ZX F54 engine (Normally Aspirated with flat top pistons) and would like to use my E88 cyl head on it -- converting from the P79 and fuel injection back to the SU's for now. Looks like it will be a bump in Compression from about 8.3 to around 10:1. Anybody else out there done this combo? I'm about to buy gaskets and just want to make sure that there aren't any problems I am not aware of. Going programmable FI as the funds allow in the future, so no need to point out that going from FI to carbs is not a good idea. Garrett

I am going to try to start an l24 that has been in storage for 10 years. I have seen posts like this in the past but couldnt find it. What do I need to do to prep the engine to get it started safely. The engine ran very strong before it when into storage so I hope it will continue to do so after I get it going. Sorry if this has been asked before, but its always good to get advice from people who have failed/suceeded in the past doing what I am about to do. Thanks guys

I have a dumb question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Is it normally harder to start a car with high compression? Vicky

I asked the guys in the aussie forum these questions relating to this engine (L24E skyline). Just thought some of the yanks might be able to shed some light on the issue (as I only just found out this engine was availible in the states in the maxima). Just wondering if anyone can confirm how many CCs this head is. I've heard around the 40-42cc mark, although I havent measured it myself (dont have access to a burrette). The reason its so critical is that I am about to use this head on an L28 block with flattop pistons, and too small a chamber will blow my compression ratio out, and I dont wanna have to rebuild it again with dished pistons (which I also have). Can anyone w…

Has anybody tried it? i just want some feedback before i buy it. i'm planning on installing a radiator in my 73 240z, but it has to use the stock hoses and filler cap. Also, it must bolt on without any modifications. thanx:ermm:

I was reading about pros and cons of forged pistons, and it said that to run a forged piston you must allow for the expansion of the piston as the engine warms up to operating temperature. So this means a larger piston to cylinder clearance that initially will wear on the cylinder more since it will take a little while for operating tolerences to expand to normal. Does anybody know the life expectancy of a forged piston engine versus a cast piston engine? I'm sure it will be less, but I've never heard exactly what to expect. Also anyone ever see hypereutic pistons for a Z? Thanks Fatones

Howdy, I am pulling apart an L28 for the first time and can't seem to get the intake manifold off. I have taken all the bolts out from the top of the intake and it won't budge. There is one bolt at the front of the engine but it looks like the exhaust manifold bolt. Are there any bolts other than ones next to the injectors? I have put some wood on there and given it a bash but it is still solid. Cheers Glenn
