Another novice question probably. I have a 2.4 with dgv's and a 2.5 inch exhaust and I love the high RPM's... The Tach says it goes up to around 7000 and even more. I was racing a 2003 honda civic si, and I beat him on high revs alone. I want more power from my engine, and sone solid upgrades would probably be boring it ot to a 2.6 or boring and stroking to a 2.8. I have heard that stroking the engine will significantly lower the usable RPM. I just bought an e-31 head, and plan on inspecting it, doing some polishing and maybe porting. If I can find a good machine shop I may get it milled. ANYWAY I wanted to know if you guys had experience or opinions with different …

Starting your car 1 2

Well my 240Z has been in the garage for about a fortnight now (no, not the whole time!) and we are slowly building mutual respect for one another. One aspect of this is starting up from cold. I use the folowing technique: 1. pull on max choke 2. crank until it splutters on 2-3 cylinders 3. reduce choke to about 1/4 and crank again 4. Try not to use the throttle at all during this procedure. It always takes a min or so to get running and I assume this is due to a combinaiton or reasons...namley getting fuel to the carbs, getting the right choke position and probably due to old plugs/leads/points. When it does fire up it tends to idle ok but run roughly on less than six c…

Guys, Misplaced the tool I had to remove this annoying little thing, this weekend I'm put another g'box in and need to replace it. I read a while back this can be done with grease, a driver and hammer? If anyone can help would be great, thanks.

Hello, I have a '71 240Z. The car sat several years in a my father's garage. I started it up and it runs fine except gas filled up the bottom of the air cleaner while it was running. What causes this? Should I take the carbs off and rebuild them? Or just use carb cleaner or something? What's a good source for a rebuild kit if I need to do that? I'm new to z-cars and have limited experience in mechanics; but I've done breaks, tune-ups, etc... Thanks!

morning, very simply what is the science in choosing the right length of velocity stacks... is it purely as a result of testing on the dyno, are there formulas which one could use to figure out gains vs losses of different length stacks, etc... i've been searching around on the web and while i did find places selling them, i didn't find much explained about the science of picking the right ones... someone here care to help? -e

Hi guys, I recently bought a 260z 2+2 (the +2 is because I have +2 children). The car is original and the engine has been reconditioned. There is a slight exhaust leak at the rear of the manifold and the rear stud is missing from the head. My mechanic thinks that a previous owner may have removed the stud to fit the manifold back on as it is possibly warped out of shape. Before I pull everything apart does anybody know if this is a common fault with the L26? Also can any Oz members adivse, is $150 au too much to pay for a set of second hand extractors.

I've got a question for you all. Regarding the balance tube assembly on a 1970, is it the only balance tube assembly that has the fitting for the brake-vac line that point toward the firewall, as opposed to point up? I'm just curious, because most of the ones I see point up. Mine actually comes srtaight out the back of the balance tube. The vintage of my Z is....1970, mfg date 3/70, s/n 02126. Please help us older guys. P.S. Stay young, as getting old holds no future! Unless you own a seires one Z of course.

Hey guys, Im selling my L28ET setup as a few of you know and I want to make sure its running for the next owner. The L28E ran fine when I bought it around 6 monthes ago but the battery was flat and I havent started it since as i planned to rebuild it anyway. I know this isnt a huge deal as some of you guys pick up motors that havent been used for several years, but is there any steps i should go through before I charge up a battery and fire her up? Remove the rocker and oil the head etc?

Hello Zs I have 72' 240 with AC. I am going to replace my after market radiator to Nissan genuine radiator. I would like to know your opinion about 2 row or 3 row. I was thinking. If I have a chance to have new parts, I prefer it's close to original. This means 2.Is 2 row radiator with AC really dangerous ? Thanks

Hi, i have a 76 280z that i just had smogged a few monthes ago, and i think it might be the last time i smog it. you have to smog your car every 2 years in CA and by the time i have to smog it again in 06, the car will be 30 years old, and hopefully smog exempt. my question is whether its posible to get rid of some of the smog stuff on the engine to make the compartment look better and maybe gain a little HP in the process. I've seen some 280zx engines in 240s that have had smog stuff taken off, and they work fine, and look great. im just wondering what you guys think of all this....anyway, thanx as always!! Joey
