I've noticed that I have some oil on my spark plugs. My engine has 10,000 on it. Could this be from valves out of adjustment? I'm hoping?? ( I checked and the valves were out of adjustment). My car is not sluggish, it's just as quick as when I first put the motor in. I don't notice any smoke.

I will be starting to rebuild my new engine and need some info. First off let me say that it is an F54 block and I'm working on getting an N42 head from someone (deal is pending), and will be running carbs on an N36 intake; car already has a header on it. The PO of the engine said that the car had been sitting for a couple years before he bought it. He said he drove it home and then pulled the engine to do a V8 swap. I will be pulling the FI and head and replacing both with different pieces as stated above. What should I do to the engine during the rebuild? New rings? New pistons? Take the block to a machine shop? If so what should I have them do? What gaskets sho…

What the heck is this!? How is this different than just having a valve job done?

If you were rebuilding the engine in a '78 280z (for street use), what would your list of should do's and don't bother with include? Would headers be in order- an upgraded cam kit (does that affect the distributer)- computer changes- changes to the EFI? Any advice, tips, help, or redirection within the club would be greatly appreciated and welcomed- new to the club

Hi all, Well, I've only had my new '72 240Z for a couple of days now and I've already discovered numerous things about her that set her apart from manual transmission cars (she has an automatic transmission). One of those things is a dual point distributor. I was talking to my mechanic about this and he said that this was an emissions thing and suggested that I just drop in a single point dizzy for simplicity of maintenance. Has anyone done this before? Would it actually work? Additonally, if I had a single point dizzy in there, then could I not take the next step of putting a Petronix ignition in the single point dizzy? I can't put a Petronix in there now because a…

What needs to be done to make this setup work? I have read that the head needs larger valves. I'm trying to get an idea just what's involved here. Any machine work? Can the head letterally be taken off the original engine and bolted to the F54 block with no other work needed (provided there's nothing wrong with it)? Reason I'm asking is that I was going to go with a P90 head but have discovered that to make it worth doing there is some machine work needed (shaving the head) and from what I can tell you can just bolt the N42 on and have the same compression as the worked over P90. If the N42 is truely that much easier of a swap for the same gains I will change directi…

Hi. I'm installing a triple weber set in my 240z. With the new intake manifold there's no place for a pcv fitting. So now i have a hose, coming from the block that suppose to hook up to the pcv, hanging around. Is it ok to leave this hose hanging? If i have to hook it up to a pcv, how would i go about doing so? There's no pcv fitting on the new intake. dunno what to do.

Since I kinda hijacked someone else's thread I am starting my own here but this is a link to the background of what I'm talking about. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7875 I went over to another member's place to do some testing on my car and we started with a compression test. Here are the results. cyl 1 = ~120psi cyl 2 = ~120psi cyl 3 = ~120psi cyl 4 = ~40psi :surprised cyl 5 = ~120psi cyl 6 = ~120psi So it is now clear why my Z will not run well went she is cold (runs good when hot, after being driven a bit) and explains the blowby! With this info we skipped the leakdown test, which is what we originally started out to do.…

1972 240z with a 280z engine, just did an oil change, alot of the wiring isnt hooked up, but when i start the car, it idles great, runs just as good so far, but it spits out some damn thick exhaust, there is no cat on this car ;p, but even for a car with no cat, but there is even to much exhaust for no cat, any ideas on how to tune it so it doesnt do this, or as bad? thanks, james
