What to do? I'd like to knock the compression up to around 10:1 and I know flattop pistons will do this but they are very expensive- Ive also heard of people welding up the standard head and making the chambers smaller but that also sounds very expensive. The other option is to use a 2.4l head- but then its got smaller inlets valves and it doesnt raise the compression much(not enough to be worth it). Also what cam is everyone using? Ive read that anything bigger then a 280 degree cam on the street is a real bitch- I'd love to hear what everyone else has and how well it drives.(in a prev zcar I had a 284 degree cam and I thought it was really easy to drive but maybe it wa…

I have a question and a delima. I am running a electric pump only and all is great , however as long as the key is in the on or start position the pump is running! I want to change this because of the fire hazzard in a crash , especially in the case of an overturned situation. Does any one know of a oil pressure shut off switch that would cut the power to the fuel pump when there is a lack of oil pressure ?? Not a bad idea in any event . Or a different approach like a mercury switch that would do the same thing and cut the power . It just seems unsafe the way it is now.

Does the heater hose that runs from the front tee with the lower radiator hose into the heater core and back into the rear of the block serve any engine function? I am eliminating the heater and would prefer to just cap the front and rear inlet/outlets of this hose but want to make sure this hose does not perform a cooling function by moving coolant from the rear to the front of the motor (or visa-versa). steve77

I Tried a search but I keep getting posts where Fuel Pump is listed in Mods, not what kind, just "fuel pump" or someone randomly says they have to install thiers or something. Just need some good places to shop. Im Fairly new to the Z thing, im putting a 7mgte in a 72 240.

NEED HELP!!! Took the '72 for it's first test drive on the open road the other day (finally got her to stay running), and let me tell you, it was some scary $^!#. Here's what I noticed in 6 miles of slow, slow, cautious/aggravating driving: - The 3-sp automatic shifts hard and somewhat sparatic - At about 30mph the car loses all power and takes its time getting past 30 - It bogs horribly on hills...to the point of stopping/stalling - The carbs have an irritating tendency to load up and backfire "clap" another sign of running rich - Of course exhaust fumes everywhere - The water temp gauge apparently isn't hooked up - Even scarier, the oil pressure…

I've been looking for a Z for about five years now. I was half an hour too late to meet a guy who was dumping a beautiful 79 (wife was pregnant, it was hot and she passed out) for $1500. It was obvious he had no clue what he was selling. But I was late and somebody else wasn't. I live in Idaho so anything over ten years old that isn't a pickup is mostly held together with bailing wire, but I may have found another Z. Near as I can tell, it's a 77 (just guessing based on body lines, bumper trim, hubcaps, and steering wheel. It's got some rust along the bottom, the top's been caved some (snow) and the paint used to shine. I asked why it was sitting and a friend of th…

Does anyone in Texas, Austin specifilcally, know if a cat converter is required on a '71 240Z for it to pass inspection? I'm looking at buying one that failed inspection because it is missing the cat converter.

Can someone tell me if there is an easy way to tell if a 240Z has a header or not? I looked at a car the other day and the seller said that no modifications have been made but the exaust is pretty loud and it looked like it may have a header, but then again I'm not sure how to tell the difference.

I plan to put an electronic distributor into my '72 (I hate points) and was wondering which one would replace it properly...I've done the research and know I need a '79-83 dizzy for the best results but I didn't know if it mattered whether I got a manual or auto version (I assume so but I'd rather be sure...my 240 is a 3-sp auto by the way) with either version I've been told to only use the E12-80 module, which is pre-'81. So should I go with auto-auto (seems logical) or auto-manual combo?

I was wondering how hard it would be and what I would need to add turbo to my 280z. Do i just need new headers and manifold? And has anyone done this or know of a website that offers a guide of some sort? Thanks

I'm looking at my gas tank vent system now (I'm planning on draining and pulling the tank tomorrow), and finding that it looks much simpler than what the fiche shows. Essentially, there's the main filler tube, a vent that comes off the tank and back to the filler tube, and one other vent line that "T's" off the tank vent line, goes up in a loop and back down through the wheel well and just opens there under the car. (Picture attached). The fiche indicate that the "tank-reservoir" 17350-E4600 goes from "no date" to 6/71, which makes me think that I'm missing something . Has someone ripped out much of this system , or are the very early (11/69) systems just that much …
