My stock SU carb '72 240Z has failed the IL emissions all 3 times last year and my plates are suspended. I've tried *everything* to get it to pass, but apparently the smog pump and everything that goes with it is missing from the car. I've located a smog pump, but it does not include the six metal air tubes that run from the air rail into the six exhaust manifold runners. I can't find these anywhere. Does anyone have any idea on where to find (or make) those air tubes and fittings?

I have seen people talking about L28, L28E, and L28ET engines. What's the difference? Oh yes, then there's the LD28 and the L28. Again, what's the difference?

ive got a n42 L6 and I was playing around with the "L series engine builder software", trying to up the compression in my otherwise standard motor. It says that flattop pistons will give 9.82:1..which is good BUT the z car garage web site says flattops would give 10.4:1.. which one is right?? Then I tried putting a ld28 crank into my standard n42 motor and L series engine builder said id get 10.4:1 !!! perfect...BUT it says that my deck height is ok..wouldnt the pistons be sticking above the block with a stroker crank with no different rods/pistons? Any ideas? Whos right?

I've just began working on my 240Z and i've begun thinking about different preformance options. Right now on my Z there is Weber DGV carbs, I'd like to install triple webers but the price is a little high for a kid like me. I stumbled upon the option of installing a 4 barrel carb using the manafold from MSA. Which will deliver better preformance, the DGV's or the 4 barrel conversion?

Has anyone taken there oil pan off and looked inside? I had too as I was changing the gasket so I also decided to clean it up and paint the outside.. What I found inside was a thin layer of black paint that's coming off in places. Should I remove this paint or leave alone? If it's coming off in places, leaving the smooth steel exposed, does this mean that it is slowly cloggig the filter. Or is this effect so marginal I can jsut ignore it and bolt it back on? Thanks.

I am looking for a nissan motor builder who I think is based in california. I saw the name at some point in the forums and have yet to find the name of the conpamy or there web site. I remember the had vast web site specializing in Nissan and built a few different configs on the "L" type engine. Thanks

In reply to an inquiry on the compression ratio of an L28 with dished pistons, N-42, .060 surface, etc. I was troubled with not being able to reply with any accuracy. I work daily, machining, adjusting, and setting up compression in racing engines, and this was my response. Hopefully, it might shed some light on a problem encountered at some time by most Z rebuilders. Ed, You have too many unknowns in your engine to nail down a C.R. within half a point. For starters, how many cc's are contained within the dish of the piston? More important is the combustion chamber. If it was brand new, you could go with factory cc info, but a used head may have had a valve job or two, sl…

my '72 is still in the tuning stages but I can't leave it running long b/c it'll sit right between the 120 and 250 on the temp gauge but after driving it around in the parking lot to check the carbs ill leave it at idle for maybe 30 sec and then the needle skyrockets to 250 and I shut it off immediately.....Also I've checked the hose that runs from the thermostat and the radiator while it idles and the flow is very low or not at all....So far I've changed the thermostat and flushed the system.....i dunno whats blocking it or might be the pump....any of you have this problem?

What is the differance between the resistor type spark plug and the non-resistor type? I went to the parts store and they gave me resistor type spark plugs cause they were all they had, I thought that my car called for non-resistor type. I told the parts guy and he told me they fit and will work better. I do not believe him. I didn't buy them, but does it matter?

There does not seem to be tested and confirmed numbers that I was able to find. I have seen the chart at http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/2824/heads.html but it does not have the combination I was looking for. Does anyone know factually what the compression ratio is for an F54 block with flat-top pistons and a P90 head combination is?

How do I tell if it's working or not? It's definitely not seized--how hot do I need the engine to get to make sure it engages? Currently, if I'm just sitting in traffic, or stop and go freeway stuff, the temp gauge gets to the hot side. Is it just heat from the exhaust manifold, or is the fan not doing its job? As soon as I'm up to a good speed, the car cools right down, so as long as there's air flowing through the radiator, the cooling system works fine. I've also gone to the the 160 degree thermostat. Thanks in advance, Chris
