I'd like to get some input about this. It seems to me, that boring out the cylinders to take larger pistons while keeping the stock stroke would allow the engine to spin faster more easily; since it would create even more of an oversquare condition. If any of you guys have done this, let me know what you observed. Thanks.

I'm almost ready to put the head back on my original engine, but I was wondering what, if any, "form-a-gasket" type stuff I should use while installing the gasket. I'll be using a Fel-pro head gasket. No mods made to engine other than general clean-up and repair. When I pulled it apart, there was a silvery residue on the block and the head, but I don't what it was. Also, the new gasket says to use no sealant, but the old gasket was a fel-pro also and it obviously had something on it. I'm pretty sure this motor was never before taken apart, either. PO before me had the car since '72. Any ideas, suggestions?

Anybody ever heard of this company or know anyone who has bought one of their motors? They seem pretty good and have a decent warranty. Apparently you can get rebuilt L28's from them. http://www.rebuiltcarengines.com

Would a Supra Twin Turbo 2jzgte fit in a 260z ? What would need upgrading ? Im guessing a 260z with a 2jzgte would be a perfect combination, or is the soarer twin turbo a much better choice ? Comments would be much appreciated.

I have an early 240Z (VIN around 7,000 or so) that has an E88 head. Does anyone know when Nissan made the change over from the E31 to the E88? Thanks. Koreavet

Hi Backfiring is something that I know about but I'm not 100% sure of WHY it happens and HOW it can be bad for your engine. My car backfires a bit when I am at 3000 or over going down a hill... it sounds kinda cool but I'm not sure how bad it is, if it is at all? Could someone please explain for me and probably some others here too what the cause(s) are for backfiring engines?

Well, my current plans include a K&N intake, some larger exhaust tubing w/ better flowing muffler, and an electric fan for my 76 280z. Browsing around ebay I came across a few cams designed for the l28, one for idle-5000, and one for 1800-55000rpm. I'd like to move the power down a little bit, with a little more torque off idle, even if it means sacrificing some high-end power. Will a new cam help accomplish this? And, more importantly, how involved would a cam swap be? I think I can handle the intake/exhaust/fan stuff ok, but that doesn't involve opening the engine up. Is it a simple drop-in basically? I'm really not much of an engine person (yet), and I don't want h…

Can any one tell me from experience what to expect to pay for an L24 Short Block Rebuild? Using my own block (no core charge), standard rebuild, no extras, nothing fancy, just a good solid short block rebuild. I'd add the timing stuff and head, and install in the car. Thanks. Carl :classic:

Alright here is the story I have a bunch of motor head friends all with suped up cars and my 72 240z does seem to be matched. I have read many threads on performance but they don't ever fit my specific wants. I do not want to change engines, seems to me it is stealing from the cars originality if I do that. I also do not want to change out of my Su's. Fuel injection would definitely help on performance but it would also make the z unoriginal. Turbos are also so much of a change it is almost like a new engine so I don't want to do that. I know some of this sounds weird but I want to try to keep my z as original as possible while still getting as much out of performa…
