what is the fuel injection that is used on a '77 280Z... i have heard that it is the Bosch L-Jetronic (similer to what was used on VW and Porsche type 4 cars, like the porsche 914), but i would like to know if it really is, or if im not on the right track? any webpages dedicated to tuning it, or that would at least tell me howv it works (more or less)?

me again, I was wondering how many miles per gallon on a 78 280z(stock) should i expect, I'm not quite sure about how mpg i am getting but it seems as if im gettin very little mpg? any one know? If there anything i can do to improve my fuel economy? Thanks again!

What is the BCDD ( boost controled deceleration device ) for? Emitions during throttle let off? I put a '78 N47 head on my 240 block ( F.I. Electronic ign. - the whole 9 yards ) The BCDD is mounted to the bottom of the throtle chamber. It has one wire coming out of it. That wire was hooked into a plugblock near the speedo but it dead ended there - the '78 Z ran good before I pulled the head and wireing. Now that the head is on the 240 block ........ When I start it up (first piston to the top fires right up) it idles good at about 700 rpm and will stay that way untill I rev the motor once. That's when it will stay idleing at about 2700 - 2900 RPM untill I turn the igniti…

Where is a good place I can get a good and cheap (i know its a bit contradictory). I have a 76 280z with a stock engine (Fuel Injected as well), also where is a cheap place I can get a 3" 90 degree mandrel bent elbow to convert my old air intake to a cold air with K&N?

can someone clue me in on a "turbo 90a" i kno nothing about it and theres this z around me and he says he has a turbo90a motor and it runs 13 psi with a intercooler but i might buy this car and i have the slightest idea what anyhtign about that engine is pleeeeeeeeease help thanks

When I rebuilt my 240, I used silicone on both thermostat housing gaskets(housing to engine and housing to thermostat cover. Thermostat cover is new). They both are leaking now(300 miles on engine). Have ordered new gaskets and am wondering what gasket sealer would be best to use.

got a new block(F54) my question is can i use L24headbolts on the 82L28 or do i need to purchace difrent ones for that year and are the torking specs diferent if so does anybody know them. Thanks

So --> I got up bright and early this morning (yeah ok, so it was 8am) to do all of teh prep work on the engine and trans removal from my parts car for insertion into my race car. I have to say, Nissan/Datsun engineers made this as easy as a small block in a 69 chevelle. I had room to work, the only stubborn bolts were on the exhaust (no shock there).. I cut the down tube off, I will just re-weld it later... I was ready to pull the engine at 12:30 -- so I ran off to pick up my friend and the hoist... Now -- the fun really started -- we had the hoist hooked up, and the engine and trans were coming out and it was about 3 oclock! What an efficient morning I was thinkin…

Anybody have any good ideas or tips on removing the carbon build up in the combustion chamber and ports of a head? I'm trying to clean up my E31 head and I need to remove the carbon build up on it. I have tried a wax/grease remover (like PrepSol) which works, but it takes lots of rubbing and lots of time. Plus I can't reach very well into the tight areas. I know a screwdriver would work but I'd prefer not the scratch up the chambers. I guess I could always take it to a shop and have them dip it, but that would cost money I don't have right now. Any DYI tips or suggestions?

My 0 to 30 time is horrible! I am wanting to do something to my car to make the low end torque better and have a great start to my car. It is an automatic and I am thinking of getting the fuel injectors cleaned. What do yall think I should do to make the car faster from the start. Thanks

Hey guys, i just purchased my first Z , and we all know i want to start modding it after i tune it up and and clean it. i was hoping for some insite about the car. its a 1978 280Z non-turbo FI. Just wondering wut kind of 1/4 mile times, 0-60 times and hp and torque ratings it has stock. Also wut is the best way to go, get all the parts to turbo it, or go all engine (intake, ignition, plug wires, exhaust, header, pistons, cam, maybe bore, etc.) Thanx for all ur input

I've seen rebuilt cam and rebuilt rocker sets for sale on ebay. Anyone know how well these "rebuilt" rockers function? Longevity, etc.
