exhaust question 1 2

I recently bought my first Z, which is a 71. The original exhaust and header is still on the car and I would like to replece them, though I will be hanging on to them incase I want to return the car to stock but in the mean time I would like to get something that would give me a little more power. Now here is my question: I was wondering what a good header exhaust combo to get that would give me the best HP increase without breaking the bank. While I don't mind some noise from an exhaust I don't wanna sound like one of them street racers that annoy so many. Does anyone have any favorite online places to shop for exhaust systems? Thanks in advanced, Bart 1971 240Z

Hi Guys, Couple of questions that I'm sure have been asked on here but I really can't find the answers when I searched. Basically the situation is that I'm looking to upgrade the cam in my 260Z (with the 240Z style round tops and extractors) as it is running out of breath. Now my first question is: Does anyone have a recommendation for lift/duration on a basically stock setup like the above? I know that my current cam is 256/256 degree duration and 0.276/0.290 lift. (I if my conversion is correct!) Second question: At what point do I have to worry about the springs binding? Is a 0.460 lift alright, or can I go a bit further? And lastly: do I need to retard or advance the…

Quick question for you guys that have rebuilt your motors... My manual says that when installing the rear main bearing cap "the corners...should have an application of jointing compound..." at the 90* bends where the cap sits. I understand all this, but what is jointing compound? When I go to PepBoys or Advance, what should I be looking for specifically?

Ok now I'm looking for actuall proof with this question not "supposed to be" or "rumored too have's". It's regarding the E88 & N36 intake manifolds. I have heard the N36 gives a 10Hp power increase. I ask this because I have one spare in the garage that is acutally collecting dust(saw dust). One the car I have a E88. I understand that this might only benefit if you have done other modifications. So I'm gonna list the mods done to my L28. It's a F54 block with E88 head. 10:1 comp. mild cam, ZX valves, some head work. Extractors and the equivelent of a mandrel bend exhaust system infact there are no bends the exhaust runs straight down the middle of the car. Electronic …

I am the original owner of a 72 (built in 71) 240. The head has been reworked (butched) twice. It needs new seats, valves etc. Any help or advice is welcome. It still has the orginal brass seats. Also, can an E88 head casting replace the earlier one (I believe E81)?

Head specs

I'm trying to have a head (N42) rebuilt. I want to have the old seats replaced and have a 3 angle job on the valves. The machine shop said he would need to have the specs to do the job properly. Mainly he was concerned with the valve height, how much should the valve portrude at the top of the head and where do you measure it from? Also the maximum amount the head could be shaved before having to use shims on the cam tower. Can anybody help me here? Thanks

Has anyone tried (or knows someone who has) to raise the compression in a fuel injected engine. I have an F-54 block that I had thoughts of putting an N-47 head on. I'm going to completely rebuild the engine, so a new cam and that sort of equipment isn't out of the question. I also have a set of SU's, but everyone that I've talked to says to stay with injection if that's what I have. I think that the carbs are the flat top, but I can't remember right now. I don't want this engine for drag racing, but I may do some autocrosses or other track events as well as street driving. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Is this possible? I did some calculating, and figured that i'dd need to bore it .1051 to get it there. This wont disrupt the heating properties of the engine. Will it over heat like a mad man, or will it work fine? To bore, or not to bore? That is the question.

Ok....so I know this is going to sound wierd and strange but I do really need some help with this one. Here's the deal: The block breather tube (the one that comes out of the block underneath the carbs and in front of the exhaust, with me here?) on my original engine was :tapemouth REMOVED!!!! by the PO. For whatever reason I don't know. Here's my problem. I have another block that still has one it. How the hell do I remove it? I have tried using adjustable pliers and Vise-grips but all it seems to do is bend the tube or start to ruin it. I'm at a loss on this guys. I want the original engine for my car rebuilt and in the car, but I really can't go any f…
