I know everyones gonna say use the search but here it goes anyway... A local yard has a few 280zx's and one 260z 2+2. None are rebuildable by any means. I can pick up a whole Engine with everything on it for $250. I think this is pretty decent. Some of the cars are turbo some aren't. What year or what else should I look for on picking which one I want him to yank for me? Plans are to tear down and make a pretty mean street motor out of it. It will get Carbs and all when it's time to find her a home. I'm looking to make ~250hp. The goal is that it will end up in a 240 and still look like a 240 motor With tripple carbs. Is the turbo block better? This could still b…

I have a 72 240z. I have read in the forums that a good performance increase can be done with the addition of exhaust and headers (this also makes since to replace because after I get done driving my car my girlfriend won't come within a mile of me because of the fumes on my clothes). I was curious what everybody recommends as the best mix of exhaust and headers. Thanks Frankenstein Z

OK, here is a newb question. Other than the carbs, what differences are there between a late '73 240Z and the earlier motors? Had they started putting emmisions controls on the motor yet, or did they wait for the 260?

I was looking at this photo a member displayed regarding shaved door handles and I really like the exhaust setup. Has anyone done this? Whats involved? Do YOU like it? Thanks.

so i'm getting ready to pull the head and check out those valves but i thought i would call a Z shop and get some pricing on some of the parts. they told me they needed a code off the head. now, i don't remember where but i thought i heard that the early cars had iron heads. this one is aluminum. the code on the head is E88. is this the head that is supposed to be on this engine? does anybody know of a good site for replacement parts? does this site have any supporting vendors? i also have an unrelated question about the rear end. is there a HD unit for these cars? what year(s) have such a unit and how do you identify them? are these cars 'posi'?

I've got a F54 that is ready to put back together. I had the opportunity to weigh the piston/rods the other day and decided, why not. I weighed the piston, rod, cap, bearings & bolts as an assembly. The heaviest was 2 lbs 14.15 oz. and the lightest was 2lbs 13.95 oz. is this difference big enough to have the engine balanced. I was just going to put it all together and not give balancing a second thought but after seeing this?????? What do you guys think? I'm not planning anything drastic with this engine 6k rev limit N/A. Street use. Should I get it balanced?

I have replaced my standard aircleaner with after market sports ones and as a result I can no longer attach the breather pipe from the valve cover to the cleaner. I have seen pics of engines with a small K & N type filter on the valver cover and was wondering if this is ok. When doing a search on the subject, there seems to be differing opinions on how effective/appropriate these are as compared to a seperate catchment tank or just leaving the breather pipe open. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks, Geoff

I have a 1973 240Z with standard 240Z engine, apart from fairly new English SUs. The problem is that when the fuel tank is filled up, there are a variety of running problems (flat spots, stalling, running rich) which disappear as the fuel tank runs down - on a 1/4 of a tank it runs beautifully. Checked out the SUs and they are OK - fuel seems to have trouble reaching the engine from the carbies when full. The engine has a mechanical fuel pump but not an electric one. Any suggestions, anyone? Thanks!

hey all, I am looking for anyone who has taken the stock L24 and modded or warmed it over to gain the most out of this engine. My motor is still strong and the SU's are dead solid. I have a header and a 5spd, I do however have some valve train noise. So, I am pondering a rebuild, but I want to do a tried and true mod. So any of you guys with the L24 done up nice and runing daily with no issues please give me your Blue PRints I will return them...... eventually!
