I will be replacing my stock exhaust system on a '72 L24 from the y-pipe back with 2 1/4 inch pipe omitting the resonator. I have looked at past posts regarding new exhaust systems and this sounds like a good way to go. My question has to do with what muffler to buy. I think a turbo muffler is what I want. My choices are a Walker super turbo or a standard turbo. My goal is a nice growl but not obnoxiously loud. Is there a significant difference between these two mufflers other than the Walker's stainless steel interior and warrentee?

After acquiring a '71 240 last month, I just took it to in for a North Carolina inspection..it failed. The smog pump is not hooked up(no belt), and the pump cannot be turned by hand, so I guess its fried. Many comments here suggest the pump's removal, to boost power, but how do you suggest getting around the state inspections without the pump in working condition.

I got an OEM windshield weatherstrip from a friend who sold his 260Z 2+2. Does this also suit my '72 240Z ? I'm confused because MSA has 2 different parts# for the 2seater and the 2+2. Where is the difference?

Well, I blew out a headgasket today, so I need to change it this upcomming weekend. The car still runs, but leaks water out of the right side between the head and block. How hard is it pull off? Can I just leave all the intake attached? How do I need to line up the timeing chain? I'v never pulled a head on these engines so I don't know. Thanks

Well boys, I've always wanted to try the electric cooling fan sold by Motorsport. $130 something. Installed this week, and it is a dandy. Bolts up easy enough, car runs quieter, and most importantly, stays cool! It was mid 90's today and stuck in traffic, I swear it runs substantially cooler. Just have to get used to it running for a few minutes after shutdown. It's in a plain jane factory stock 73 240 w/72 carbs and 3 row core. I'm glad enough just to be rid of that fan clutch. Anyway, if you've thought about it, go ahead and try it. It works.

Ok, I have an L28 that has been _OCOMPLETELY_ dismantled. The block is at the machine shop getting tanked and miced. If it comes back within spec for the bores, what should I soak the piston/rod assembly in to dlean all of the carbon off? I remember hearing something about using some special brush for cleaning them but it has slipped my mind at this point. Also -- if the pistons that came out are within spec, and look OK what are the gains (oustside of oversizing) for getting new pistons and pins? I am definitely doing all the bearings, rings, and rod bolts already, but dont know if I should plan on getting new pistons... Thanks! p

For those of you interested in weight, I picked up an F54 over the weekend, no flywheel, no head, no intake/carbs, 228 pounds. It sure feels like about 300, when carrying it around, and it left some nice marks on the legs.

Hey there. I was just wondering if anyone has actually seen a L-28 diesel crankshaft. I have phoned all over the island and most of the wreckers haven't even heard of a diesel Maxima let alone the crankshaft for one. I knew it would be a hard thing to find but, whoaa! Am I thwarted?:disappoin

Can anyone tell me how much compression/horsepower I would get just putting flat-top pistons in an F-54,P-90 combo? It has dished pistons right now.:classic:
