I've read in a couple different places that the block to get is the L28ET from the 81-83 280ZX Turbo because it has siamesed (and therefore stronger) cylinder walls. I've also been told that this block has an F53 stamp code on it. My question to you all HERE is A. do you agree with the L28ET being the best suitable block and B. can you tell me where to find the F53 stamp on the block???? I can't seem to find it on a couple different blocks I've come across recently.... Thank you, -e

Is it really bad (I think it is!) to use unleaded gas in a 260 alu head? How many miles before the valves sink into the ports? It's not for me, as I am ZXed, but for a fellow member... Every comments are welcome, fred

Hi All, I recently boought a rebuilt head from a small shop for a really good price. Only problem is the head has surface rust on all the moving parts. Question is, is there any thing good enough out there to clean it without complete disassembly, or is it advisable to tear it down and then clean it...if so with what? The cam, springs, guides and all are light coated with rust. I'd like to use it this winter. Also, when it is cleaned what do I put on it to preserve it until I install it? TIA Bill

Diff whine
by Saint- 4 replies

I've just had my 1971 240z completely restored and took it for a test drive. While there are a few things that need attending to, the one that I'm not sure of is a consistent low level whine coming from, I believe, the diff of the car and at up to and over 90mph a vibration through the seat. I'm not sure if it should feel relative smooth at these speeds. Would this have anything to do with balance of driveshaft or maybe shafts to rear wheels, u-joints? Any help would be appreciated as I haven't anything to compare with.

I live out in the Seattle area and am looking for the best mechanic looking for a moonlight job with the best rate. I'm not in a hurry but am a fanatic about detail and concerned about having to spend too much for all that needs to be done. Anyone out there have some good leads.

I have a 70 Z that is currently being "rebuilt" by Rebello Racing. He is rebuilding to about 240HP and I am looking for a good ignition set up. I purchased a Mallory Unilite Electronic Ignition Distributor and have a Fireball PS40 coil. I have been looking at the MSD 6 and the Crane XR3000 ignition system. Has anyone used a similar set or could they recommend another. Looking for Street performance. Thanks Mark

Hi all, Got my car dyno tuned yesterday, the jetting in the carbs was wrong and I knew it all needed some work. They ran it up, found out what jets needed changing etc on the carbs, changed the jets and fine tuned. After all that they ran it up one more time to check the results and this chart is the result of that. Remebering that I didn't go in and say "How much HP does this make" this was purely a tuning run and the chart that resulted. I was wondering if these are the sort of results I should be expecting from an L28 and how it rates as far as other peoples engines go? Also this is the HP / Torque at the wheels, how do I then convert it to HP at the flywheel? Thi…

I had trouble with my engine after it had been in storage for 15 years. The bottom line is two valves hung up and I removed the head to have it rebuilt. Prior to removal of the head the compession of four of the 6 cylinders was about 200 psi. The head rebuilder found that the head was out of flat(warped) by .023 inches and said machining it flat would exceed the nisson recomendation. I need a new rplacement or some advice what to do next. The rebuilder suggests sending it to a place in Canada where they would anneal the head and reheatreat and machine. What do yu think

What should the accurate operating temperature be when the engine reaches its normal temp? The scale starts at 120 f and my car is running over half way of the meter.

high-rpm stumble 1 2

I'm getting a little stumble right after 5,500 RPM (I can even hear the exhaust crackle). It then immediately smooths out and keeps revving, so I don't think it's for lack of fuel... My setup: stock '73 engine, round-top SU's, stock ignition, motorsport equal-length header. I'm running the timing a little advanced, about 9 or 10 BTDC... Any ideas of what to check?
