Ok -- seasoned veterans and rookies alike! How did you get the crank out of your L-series? I have the main bolts out, but the FSM calls for some special Nissan tool. I will go get one if I have to, but I would rather find out if there are any hobbyist ways to do this. I can post pics if anyone wants to see what I mean. Thanks!

Well, I was going to use an L28 engine and rebuild it to high performance, but that plan has fell thru, I can't get that engine. I still want to build up a performance engine for my 240z, but I don't know what I can do. I wanted an L28, but I can't find one locally. I was wondering if there would be any difference in useing a different engine to build up. I am going for a 280 engine atleast. Would it be alright to use one off a regular 280z, like the L26 engine or something? Or is there something special about L28s that I should wait for as long as it takes to find an L28? Do anyone live near me (I live in Nebraska) know where I could find one? Thanks

Hi Guys, One question that I can't find an answer to on this site or in any of my reference material. Does the 280ZX Dizzy use the Hall effect to feed back to the ECU? If so does anyone have the stats on it (ie voltage high and low?) And while on the topic, where is the crank angle sensor on a 280Z(X) efi engine? Is it in the spindle with the Dizzy like later model nissan engines? Also, does the 280Z(X) efi engine run an O2 or knock sensor? And does anyone know what brand of computer is used in the efi nissans? I think that's all! Any help is appreciated but especially to do with the dizzy as I'm trying to source an efi dizzy for when I efi my 260Z. Thanks, Ross.

I bid on a set of chrome headers on ebay. They are off a 1978 280z i think. they have round exhaust holes and the pipes are 2" diameter. Well these things fit my 1972 240z? i sure hope so!!! oh yeah and there is a place in Salina Kansas called Industrial Refinishings, they will triple chrom about anything for a very reasonable price.

The 240Z that I bought sat for 10 years but it was started from time to time as the PO tried t get it running. The last unsucessful attempt was about two months ago (I've had the car for 2 1/2 weeks now). I am including a snippet from an email that a friend sent to me to see if you guys think I really need to do all this stuff (not that I understand half of it anyways). Hey everyone. I'v finally got the money to start my L28 engine build up. I have an 81 L28 from a 280zx. I am planning on doing a cheap, but high performance rebuild on it before dropping it in. I am getting a dual webber setup as we speak. I don't know what else I need though. I want to make this engine capable of running in the 13 second range. I am also using the 5spd from the same car. On a recent trip to the Bay area, something strange happened. Fresh oil change and filter ZX pump with maybe 10 hours on it Sending unit has maybe 10 hours on it Gauge always real consistent...moves quickly and easily to expected levels depending on driving conditions...about 1/4 up at idle, slightly under mid-way at most driving, slightly above half to 3/4 at 4-5r's... Cruising up the 101 at a sustained 90-95 mph. Not much traffic so it was going solid at 42, 4300 rpm for upwards of an hour. Does any one out there know of any aftermarket fuel rods that look better than the stock on a L28 280zxt. Trying to dress up the engine but that stock fuel rod just looks like crap.

Here is what happend to me. My friend and i are driving home from drill along an open stretch of Old 40. He has a 2002 Mustang and i'm in my Z of course. We are just kind of cruising, and i'm behind him. He opens up his car, so i attempt to keep up. I notice as i accelerate the car is smooth till about 4800 to 5000 rpms. Then it happens!!!! Same accelarator position and the tach goes back down to about 4600rpms. I floor it and the rpm slowly climbs to about 5300rpms and wont go beyond this. What is my likely problem? This thing is really ticking me off. I am trying to install my new guages, mechnical by the way. And I cannot get the temp sensor out to save my life. I just can't figure it out. I unscrewd the flange, but I can't get the rest of it out. Any ideas on how to do it? I can't fit my channel locks in there with the lack of room. Should I just take the entire assembly off the head and do that way? Thanks
