Hi all, Just thought I'd post a message about my experience with ATK Engines. About 3.5 months ago I ordered an engine from ATK. I decided to use this company because I heard nothing but good things about their rebuilds. And, they also have a very good record because they actually TEST the engine before it leaves the shop. Good deal. Anyway, they told me it would be about 4-6 weeks before they would ship it. No problem, that was a little late, but, it gave me sufficient time to remove and prepare the car for the new engine. When the expiration date showed... no engine. So, I call ATK. Looks like they will need another 4 weeks to get it to me. Damn, I really wanted …

Hey, I am wanting to get a tripple gauge aftermarket set for my 72. I am wondering though, For my oil pressure gauge, I will need to remove my oil press. sending unit near my oil filter, and screw in the new probe for the gauge. But, doesn't this car have a fail safe that will shut off the engine if theres no oil press.? If so, what will I need to do to get around that? Also, what size is the oil pressure and coolant temp sender threads/fittings? Thanks

I have two visibly identical dipsticks from the same lower end (N47). I changed them today to see if one fit tighter and discovered nearly a quart difference in "H" level readings. The rubber seat seems very well fused on to the shaft on each, so I doubt any shifting. The printing/checkerboard is a teensy bit different but the interesting part is how much longer one is. The one I was using is 7 1/4" from seat to top of checkerboard. The other one is 6 7/8". That's a lot of oil! Which one is right? Anybody care to measure their dipstick for me? steve77 PS: YES I know how that sounded! Try REALLY HARD not to drag this down...

I am looking to improve performance on a stock 77 280z. I am told that the stock muffler is the #1 resistance point in the exhaust flow. I would like a more free flowing straight thru muffler BUT I would still like it not to be too loud. I will stay with the stock manifold, pipe and resonator for now. A Ractive muffler has been suggested. Any thoughts/experience on my goal???

I have a 71 engine that i am having problems with. Its valve timing was way off and I over revves it causing a rocker to come off on the #3 cylinder at an angle, the valve lashpad to come off, and 1 valve keeper to come off. (At first I thought I only had to replace the lash pad). I tried to put air in the cylinder to hold up the valve but it doesn't want to hold any pressure(I am using a hand pump). I try to compress the spring but when I do there isn't any room to get to the top of the valve to put the other keeper in ( and the valve goes down because the cylinder is'nt holding air pressure). Is there some trick to this? Do you think I broke the valve and that is why i…

I just bought my first 73 240z and I am having trouble with my high end fuel delivery. I just replaced both fuel filters, and I think its time to buy a new fuel pumps too. So basicaly I wondering if I should buy both pumps, or if any one has found that one pump fails more then the other? How can I tell which one has failed. I would like to be able to drive on the freeway again, so any advice is helpful. -Jesse

I am working on a 71 engine. The engine doesn't run well at all. I thought it might be the timing so I adjusted it to no avail. I pulled the valve cover thinking it might be a stretched timing chain and I found a rocker arm twisted completely off the valve spring. I found the collet next to it but no lash pad. Should I A) buy a lash pad and try to put it back togather, take the head off my 73 parts car and swap it in, C) get proffessional help? Could there be damage to the valve that I can't see? I am waiting for the valve adjusting tool from motorsport ( I gues I should have adusted the valves before trying to run the engine) so I am trying to weigh my options. Any help…

Does anyone know how much lift you can run with out modifications to the head, or changing the springs? Or is the stock cam about it. without some other mods.

hey folks, i haven't even purchased my first z car yet, but i'm looking forwart to nabbing a 72 or 73 240Z within the next month. What I'd like to do is drop in a new nissan 3.5 V6 but i'd first like to know how difficult this would be. I know some people have dropped in 350 V8s, but i like that new Nissan engine. I'm sure within the next year or so i could find one in a recking yard for a fair price. I'd appreciate any help, and i look forward to getting my first Z customized with your help! Estevan

Hi, my zed is just going again from a change of carbs and a few other things, and is running a bit smokey. It is running a slightly rich mixture, and its going through a bit of oil (not litres ). I was told that the valves could be a bit tight such that oil is being burned off the inside of the engine (<< i dont understand what that means?? ) Would appreciate a bit of advice. Doug
