I believe there was a post addressing something about this before, but I was wondering if someone could just clarify for me. The L24 puts out about 150 hp, and the L26 puts out about 139 hp? The 240z tech webpage has an engine spec section where they list the L26 as having 162 or so hp. Is that the engines potential base hp? As in with all the smog pump things removed? I've been told the emission laws cracked down on the 260z's at the time, so would an L26 be close to that 162 hp figure if I used SU carbs from a 71 240z? I've got a L26 I was thinking about restoring, so when I saw 162 hp I thought that might be a sweet deal, but I've also seen that lesser 139 figure…

It's possible that my linkage for my SU's are a bit gunked, causing me idle problems. Cleaning the linkage should be an easy enough affair, and I always say (in reference to working on cars) try the easiest solutions first. What should I use to clean the linkage? Is there some kind of spray I can buy or do I have to actually do it by hand? Also, what's the best lubricant for after I clean it?

I just down loaded the L6 engine calculator and now my head is abuzz with questions. Playing around with this usefull program i noticed how easy it is to raise the compression ratios of my L24. For instance swapping my E88 head for a E31, or replacing the crank with a later model unit. My question is how much compression can you run and still use regular pump gas. Also does more compression necessarily mean more horse power. My qustions are really just academic since this is all part of the learning process. Fear not i'm not going to go out and build an engine that will blow me the car and my neigherhood up:D Building engines is beyond my humble skills right now but i do…

Ok, will that fit custom on my Z? I have a used deal with a used 280Z rad, fan and clutch for 30$us... Cheaper than doing the total restoration. What about the water pump now??? is it a good move?

I want to replace the entire exhaust sytem on my stock engine 72 240. The current setup is aftermarket and doesn't even fit the car. The things I am looking to achieve with a new exhaust system are more horespower and a better sound - not too quiet, not too loud, but sounds like it's got some muscle. As far as price goes, I don't want to go crazy, but I don't want to go cheap either. So given that and given that I'm car illiterate, my questions to you are: 1) Should I use headers? 2) What is the desired configuration behind the headers/manifold? 3) What type of muffler should I use? Should I add glass packs? 4) Should I go stainless steel? 5) Where can I go for …

I am contemplating buying a 260z 2+2. I really like the style of the car and all zeds for a that matter, but i think it would be much better with fuel injection. I was thinking of using the existing carb manifold, and fitting two small throttle bodies in place of the carbs and fitting bosses for the injectors. And then using either a 280xz or skyline computer. Has anyone done this? i know of a guy who did it with at 280zx manifold, but i think twin throttle body would be more responsive. any comments?

I've been thinking about a triple carb set up and was wondering what things should be considered before installing such a set up. Currently my 72 has the stock L24 with a few mods i put on such as msa 6 into 2 headers, ZTherepy SU carbs with air horns and filters, a 2.5 exhaust, and a crane electronic igniton. I also took off all the smog stuff like the air pump and air galley. I invested the money for the ZTherepy carbs so this is not something that's going to happen right away but i know there are members with experience with triple carbs and i'd appreciate their input. Should i dump the L24 before i really get serious with triple carbs, or can good hp be found in this …

im looking for a new muffler for my new 71 Z. the muffler on my wrecked 72 was awesome....but i have no idea what it was (i didnt install it, the previous owner did). i think he said something about dynomax...it was a loud one and i loved it. the previous owner had put on a new header and exhaust, but the exhaust hung down quite a bit (i dont think it followed the stock tunnel). but i dont care about that, all i want is that muffler back but the insurance company wont let me take it. so does anyone here have a dynomax or something thats pretty loud?

Does anyone knows what will be the setup for a short stroke z engine , Im been reading that the setup will be a long 280 block with a 240z crank and 240z rods , now my question is what is the Pro and con of a engine like this . I know that the power band will be at high RPM rev , but because Im going to build my engine with a 560 lift and a 300 duration cam , I would say that an engine like this will rev and operate better , but because I have never done this I want to know if someone have done it or if someone have any info on this setup , thanks for any info . Take care ...

ok, so i bought my first 240Z a few weeks ago, and it was running really sluggishly, so was looking around, and i saw that the hose to the advance was missing, so i fixed that and it gave it more power, but still not close to what it should have, so i checked the spark plugs, and number 4 was wet. I took the compression, and all the others were around 145-130, #4 was 0. so i took the valve cover off, and there was a rocker missing! so i got a new one, and as i was putting it on, i noticed that the valve spring was sitting much lower than any of the others, just wouldn't come up. so i just took the head off, which was fun for my first time taking one off, and thank god …

Hey. I just bought a '74 260z 2+2... It's been standing for a long time, bout 8-10 years i think  So i think starting it is gonna be hard. I was thinking bout maybe putting a RB30 (turbo) from the Holden VL Commedore in it. I've seen it done in a 240z (picture). Just wondering how hard it's gonna be? Would it bolt right in? I'll probly get a front-cut or a whole car, so i'll have all the computers and stuff... Also wondering if anyone knows if Holden VL Calais turbo brakes would fit on the 260? And last of all, i'm just for the hell of it taking the old L26 apart, and i'm just wondering if anyone knows how to go around getting the head of, it cant be done withou…

Hi Everyone, Question, rod n rod caps, are the notches on the same side or opposite? Got my engine balanced and the rods came back with numbers but some have notches on same side and others have them on the opposite side. Checked with book and it doesn't mention any place about orientation. Thanks a Mill,
