73' 240 Z with automatic. My ATF is very low and I don't see a leak. I don't know how the modulators are built. Is is possible for the vacuum line to the modulator to be sucking ATF into the engine ? And if so, could it dilute the break-in oil for the new engine ? I think it would just burn up in the cylinders, but not 100% sure.

I pulled my engine out of my car already but now I want to pull the trans. Can I just pull it forward into the engine bay when it’s unbolted from the transmission mounts or do I also need to undo the propeller shaft bolts by the rear diff? Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Way back almost before I can remember in my stupider days I took my 73 z with 40K miles to the local expert/racer to check valve clearances. I asked him to advance that timing gear a notch as I thought that the chain may have stretched. I think all that did was shift the power curve further up in the rpm range and contributed to my feeling like the car does not have enough low end torque? Then I added the larger motosport tubo exhaust pipe. Made the problem even worse?

I already have the large 27mm bolt removed from the engine. The balancer has two threaded holes that are to be utilized when using a puller per the FSM. Unfortunately it does not state what size the holes are. An M6x1.0 bolt is too big and a M5x0.8 bolt is too small. I have spent about 20 minutes trying various bolts in my collection and so far no luck. Does anyone know what size the holes are? Thank you.

Someone on hybridZ from the UK mentioned a source for lash pads from a company I had not heard from before. They are Precision Shims from Australia precisionshims.com.au They have both flat bottom and recessed bottom (like stock) lash pads in any thickness. They have stock thicknesses in 0.5 mm steps, but will make you any thickness. They make shims as they call them for many many engines. They even have the size printed on the edge! Now the best part. Price. They are $9 AUS each for the flat bottom. For Canadians, this is fantastic, as the dollar is near par with Auzzie land. In fact I had about a 1% advantage in exchange rate on the day I bought some. US…

Hi Guys, I have a HS30 (RHD) early Numbered 70's 240Z. I bought an awesome Z-story exhaust system including sports extractors. Unfortunately when i went to fit the extractors they hit up against the left hand side floor well, and also the end threads of the tension control rods. Z story have stated that they should fit, and i believe them. As far as i know the car is pretty original, but i do know that the car was once "restored" (badly).. before i go trying to get the exhaust modified to clear.. i was just wondering if there is anyway that my engine mounts are incorrect, or if there is any difference between the year models? I only ask because the top of t…

Hey guys, when I got the car the PO had purchased a handful of parts. One of them being a stage 4 cam for the rebuilt motor. Question I have is for guys who have experience with this cam and a refreshed 2.4,is it a worthy upgrade? Will I loose lots of bottom end, it will be a street car so launch is a priority aswell as rippin! I do have a lightened flywheel with it aswell. Should I sell this thing and buy sheet metal for the car or put it in the already complete motor..... Thanks guys. Sent from my SM-N950W using Tapatalk

On my 73 240 I recently removed the tranny in order to replace the clutch. I got it out, it wasn't easy just using floor jacks and jack stands but I got it out. I was reading the manual and I see that it says to remove engine as well. Is that necessary? Would it be difficult to put the tranny in w/o having removed the engine? I can see that it will be difficult to get the tranny back up in there with engine in place due to the small up high tunnel.

こんにちは, It's been a while since I have been on but we are finally in our new home and I have had some spare time to pull the z apart. So my question is, what would be the best build for a n42/n47 na set up? That's the block and head I have right now and I believe it shouldn't be a bad place to start. Any of you have experience with this build? I have read mountains on the n42 head but I can't find much on the n47. From the few things I have found some good ideas might be replacing the dished pistons for flat tops. From familiarity on the head I assume it would bring compression up to about a 10:1 and you would have to be crazy to not put a new cam in after that. …

I grabbed a 240 of my buddy who had plans for it but it then sat for like 10 years. The engine has been rebuilt and from what I've been told and can see, never run. Ill post what specs I know P30 block, unkown as to 2.4 or 2.6, n42 head, unkown cam and valve train. Im going to mount it on my stand and take the pan off to measure bore and get an idea on con rods. Through the plug holes it appears the pistons are a dished type. Ive done work on a few v8's but never a l series or straight 6 in general. I'd like to know what avenue to go before committing to this motor. It's supposedly a 3 litre stroker. I have a brand new stage 4 cam that came with it aswell as t…
