While cleaning up my transmission for installation I was pondering this. If i drill a new hole where the X is, wouldn't that create a shorter throw. Would it raise the pivot point? What problem might it create? Need help from you engineers. Don's iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

I have been happily running a 190°F thermostat for a while now. I am about to head out on a road trip in June to Austin (ZCON yeeehaaa), and was thinking I should flush my coolant system to make sure it is tip top. I have an OEM Nissan 160° thermostat sitting in its box. I am concerned it may not be warm enough for the triple weber manifold. Anybody else run 160 thermostat?

In five years in Florida I've yet to experience vapor lock in my Weber down draft equipped 240Z. So my question maybe more academic curiosity raised while I was working on a different problem. My problem has to do with hard starting after my car sits for several days. I can't say I ever experienced starting problems when it served as my daily driver. Now that I've moved on to others projects, the Z often sits for 3-5 days without starting and hard starting has raised its head. At first I thought I caused it when I converted the sequential 2 barrels into synchronous operation with a kit from Redline. Also I re-jetted the carbs to better handle the ethanol laced gas we…

I have a 5 speed competition, close ratio, 5 speed in my 1976 280Z that was installed in 1976,77. I purchased car in 1979. The part #is 32010-N3200. It uses Servo type synchronizers. I'm looking for a synchros and friction pads, seals and bearings. I believe standard seals and bearings work. Any suggestions where I can locate these synchros and pads?

Last year during an 8 hour endurance race, my 260Z started missing and running like crap before it dies completely. We tried to diagnose the issue at the track and finally had to throw in the towel that race. We could not get the car to start no matter what we tried. Everything looked normal with the timing, valve springs, plugs, etc, but it wouldn't start even on starter fluid. We parked the car in the garage and until today, we had no idea what was wrong or how much damage was done to the engine. Today, we pulled the plugs and looked in the cylinders with a borescope. Everything looked great. We then looked down the front cover and all looked normal. The cha…

I ran into a local gauge manufacturer who actually sells a 10 Bar oil pressure sender. I asked if his sender would work with our Series I 0-140 psig gauges and he replied that he know without more information about our gauges. ( 1 bar is 14.7 psig) What is unique about his sender is that it is not a dual purpose sender like almost all of the other senders available for our cars. Dual purpose senders are intended for use with idiot lights and go open when oil pressure goes below approximately 10 psig. This is what causes our gauges to go to zero while idling after pulling off the interstate. His sender does not have this feature. For those who do not know, Series…

Replacing the clutch and exhaust system and took a few photos along the way. All has gone fairly smoothly. The flywheel teeth are a bit chewed up in one place. New ring gear ordered. Not sure what caused that but a new starter went on about 3 months ago. Not sure if the old starter drive did the damage or the new starter. The new starter began to make a hard rattle about two days ago....I am working to see if the two events are related....

So I am in the process of rebuilding my first engine and will post various pics and questions here. Mileage at the time of purchase is unknown. I believe it was ordered and shipped from Japan recently. I have already installed the 5 speed transmission in my Z and it works well. Here are a few from getting it in the garage. Assistant is inspecting the situation... Plugs seem to indicate fairly good mixture? Dissassembly is coming along. OFF WITH HER HEAD!!

I have read that it can quite things down a bit. My son picked up a 1978 280Z with about 115k miles. Hardly driven at all the past 20 years....A little rust but manageable. He and I are working on it together. Did a search and did not see this product discussed. Planning to put Redline MT 90 in the transmission, but looking for recommendations...and one of the Redline Shockproofs in the differential, but would consider other options. Things work ok but am trying to quiet things down a bit (gear noise)....Noise travels I know and replacing rear bushings (Mustache is done) and bearings are next. And I have the FSM by the way... Thanks in advance.

I have a 78 280z with 115k miles....it has not been driven much in 20 years. My son bought it 4 months ago. The oil had been changed when he bought it and we have now changed it 2 more times to make sure it cleans itself. A professional did a compression check that showed 150 in each cylinder. The pro also said we might have a ring leak after blowing compressed air into #1 cylinder. All this led me to add Lucas oil stabilizer in with the last oil change yesterday. After driving it 20 miles there was a distinct valve clatter louder and different that what had been usual before this oil change. It sounds great cold but after warming up the heavier clatter starts. …

When I pump it up to the 13 lbs pressure, how long should it take to bleed off if the system is good? Mine drops slow enough that you can't watch it drop but over a half hour or so it moves a few pounds.
