The speedometer O-ring kit was replaced on our 240z not too long ago, and now it's leaking transmission fluid from that same area again. Any idea why it's leaking again so fast? It's only been about 5 months since the new o-ring kit was installed.

I'm having trouble finding a simple answer (maybe there isn't one?) to the question of: are the L8 and L4 stamped transmissions exactly the same? The problem trany is in a 81 zx Base and the donor was in a 80 zx non turbo. Base has the L4 and the donor is stamped L8? Any help appreciated. Chuck

what do you think, I see oil leaking right at the pan gasket joint. I am hoping its not the rear seal.

Some may be interested in a bit of data that I collected yesterday. Ran my Z on the dyno all day, testing various jetting and playing with timing (first with E12-80 and then with 123ignition dizzy). The goals of this project was to learn, as it was my first engine build, try different things even if they go against "conventional wisdom", and enjoy playing in the sandbox that is Z-cars. Ran it on the Dynapack at Works Motorsports, where I used to work (no pun intended). Steve aka Datsuncrush, the owner of my previous 260Z, came by for support and videography! Basic engine specs are: flat-top L28 (0.5mm over), shaved and ported P90, Isky L6 g…

Good evening, I just purchased a second L28 motor to rebuild into a stroker. I currently have a 72 240z with an L28 but want more power. I just came across an 82 Maxima Diesel that has 160k on the motor, the engine is running and for sale $1k, I have some questions and need advice? It appears the LD28 cranks arerunning about $2k on eBay, this appears to be a good deal but I am not sure if I need to do anything to the crank once I extract it, based on those miles, should I have any concern about that crank? Is there anything else from that engine that is valuable (less worried about that). Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

To start, I have a '78 Black Pearl, (Real638), which I've owned since early '81. The car has not been driven since around 1990, & I just started working on bringing it back to life a couple of months ago. The engine had never been apart - it made it 184K & still ran ok when parked. It is missing the rear lifting lug & for all I know it may have been gone when I bought the car. I know the issue of broken rear exhaust manifold studs has been covered several time before, but I'm not satisfied with the explanations I've seen for this & I can't find an answer on how to solve the problem. From what I've read the hook is gone & the stud broken on nearly all 1…

1st long distance drive (150 miles on Florida Turnpike) all good right up until I pull into my destination and then Steam... open hood coolant everywhere, I feel the fan pulley noticeable play and noise when engine running. I thought it sounded a little off when I headed out a 0 dark thirty, but guess the lack of caffeine had me not thinking straight . 2 hour later 70-75 mph before the steam.Auto zone 9:00 am do not have it but can have it by 3pm (Sunday). I did bring some tools but not my rad pressure tester. Auto zone comes thru and I get a rad tester (may keep it, nicer than my old one or AZ will refund me the entire purchase price). I was really fearing snapping…

I have had numerous people recommend the clutch kit from Exedy. I was wondering if this kit (# 06029) will definitely fit my 1972 240z l24 w/ 4-speed transmission, r200 swap, MSA cam/springs, 6-1 header, and 2.5 exhaust. Also, should I replace anything else while I am down there (ARP bolts all around, collar...etc)? Any help would be appreciated. My clutch seems to be slipping once I hit my max torque range. My clutch feels very light, I have not adjusted my clutch yet, though, I have a sneaking suspicion it is the clutch altogether. The only reason I am hesitant is that I am not sure since the clutch does slip in 1st, only 2-4th when I hammer down. I plan on buying the E…

Hey Guys, About a month or so ago I started having some issues with my transmission in my 77 280z. So I decided to remove it from the car and have a friend of mine rebuild it. We have ran into a few issues upon getting the case open and I could really use some input. First off the transmission is out of a parts car (my car was an automatic) the parts car was also a 1977 but it is unknown how many miles were on it. Anyways the transmission developed the following issues upon swapping it into my car. 1. Downshifting into first was impossible except when at a complete stop. 2. would not stay in 2nd or 5th gear while not under load. 3. Vibrations in the clutch peda…

Higuys, I've been looking into the flex fans, specifically the Flex-A Lite fans, and the variety of fan types is confusing. You can get 6-blade fans, 5-blade fans, fans with "wide blades and narrow ones: The first photo is a reverse-rotation fan (I think) and the other two are normal-rotation fans. I think I would select the 6-blade fan with the narrow 'paddles' although I'm not too sure what the difference would be between the narrow and wide ones would be, besides the amount of air flow. Any advice would be appreciated. I think it's a normal rotation fan. I'm not in a hurry; this would be a winter project. It'll take that long to figure…
