So as the title says is pretty much my problem. Now getting into more detail explaining the problem. Under acceleration it shift perfectly normal and accelerates fine but, under acceleration in 2nd gear the shifter itself wobbles up and down under acceleration, all other gears do it very minimal more so vibrates for the rest of the gears but 2nd gear you see it move up and down. Is this normal? Is this a sign of problems to come?

So I'm now retired. Big changes. We also relocated from the SF peninsula to the far East Bay, (Brentwood), about 70 miles. Drove the Z to it's new garage today in a light rain. It wasn't an easy start though, (literally). My battery was dead and wouldn't accept a charge. Had to buy and install a new one before I could drive her to her new home. She ran great and I declined a street race with a brand new Maserati coupe. Really? The guy wanted to race, "in heavy traffic", in the rain! We did both rev our engines inside the Caldecott tunnel. His engine sounded cooler, but my car got a lot more thumbs-up from people in other cars, (especially those wh…

Hey guys. So, I have the stock 4 speed in my '70z and it needs to go. I want to go the cheapest route possible for a 5 speed because I plan to to a RB25 engine and trans swap next year. I just found a 1980 maxima 5 speed on Craigslist for 350 OBO. And he keeps reposting. I could probably pick it up for 200 bucks. From what I read these are a direct bolt on? The only thing I need to do is cut out some metal to make room for the 5th gear throw is what I gather? Also, excuse my ignorance here, but can my clutch from and flywheel from the 4 speed be used with this 5speed or is that completely different? Thanks in advance.--Z

I am restoring HLS3028726, build date April 1971. Is the steel fan or the plastic correct for this car? Second question; what is the correct finish for unpainted bolts; cadmium, tin, nickle, or ??? Thanks, RDM

I'm getting into the process of welding up the little holes and imperfections in the body of my Z from things the previous owner did to her (aftermarket mirrors, mud flaps, etc.) and want to start planning the engine bay clean up process while I'm at it. One thing I know I don't know is what is the list of stuff that can be tidied, and what can't change? I'm running a 1983 F54 with a P90a and two SUs. Haven't gotten past that on the configuration yet (lots happening in parallel). Any tips and tricks are much appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I couldnt find anything that described what I have just the usual clunk at changing gears typical of a bad mount. I have an early 1971 Datsun 240z with a 4 speed manual built in 1/71. All original to my knowledge. Besides the clunk at accel and decel (front diff mount that is no longer in production) I also have a loud clunking/rattle when i let go of the gas over 60mph then goes away under 60mph. Sounds like somebody with 2 hammers hitting the bottom of the car rapidly. When I have it up on jack stands it does the same on 2nd and 4th gear at idle. its louder on the drivers side wheel for some reason.. Quieter without the wheels. when i hold the drivers side whe…

I dont know if i should ask this on a different forum but I am trying here first. If i am wrong please direct me to the right forum. When I got the 27 spline 280z stub axles, in spite of my best and some what limited efforts, I damaged the top threads. I want to buy a die to chase the threads for the new nuts. I don't know what size to get. I tried the search feature, and we all know how much fun that is, but nothing came up that helps. I tried two places on line that sell the nuts and got two different answers. The size is supposed to be the same for 240-280 series. Anybody know or have a link to where the info is? I did get the stub axels and cv shafts out of a 28…

Hey everyone! it's been several years since I was last an active participant of this community, so forgive me if things have changed! I've had my Z for almost 11 years, and once upon a time there was a great, definitive procedure for changing the valve-stem seals. I'm wondering, first, if that's archived anywhere (since the original was on Geocities and I can't really find it anywhere now.) Second, what is the tool people are using for this job these days? Back in the day, the tool folks swore by was KD Tools #3087, which was supplanted by a Jet tool #H3349. I can't find either of these anymore, and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this one: http:…

Geez what a confusing array of kits out there. I am not into racing prefer a nice smooth engagement. I have strong legs so does not have to be super light touch. A few things I see are different numbers of damper springs on the clutch friction plate, more I presume is better for smooth action? Number of fingers on pressure plate, More I presume is a easier to depress? Really just want a stock clutch, I suppose I should have checked to see if Nissan even has them 1st.

I just put a new Magnaflow XL turbo muffler on my 76 280z 2+2. I really like the way it sounds (it has a nice low rumble) but it is a little louder than I expected and I'm thinking its going to get the attention of the local authorities, This was an original California car with a CAT. The CAT is totally shot with shattered ceramic and so it is essentially a straight chamber. Since I live in Michigan (off road country), I'd like to replace it with a small muffler or resonator, The original CAT is 10" long with flanges on both ends. Does anyone know who makes a muffler or resonator that would fit?
