I'm not necessarily asking for help here, but rather, I'm curious if the armchair Z experts can figure out what is wrong with my race engine. Here is the background... My engine is a F54 block with a shaved P79 head, Web Racing camshaft and a 3-2-1 header. I run SU carbs and a ZX distributor with the E12-80 module. I built the engine a few years ago and it now has two endurance races on it with a total of about 20 race hours. Last weekend we raced the car and the engine was running great with plenty of power. About 6 hours into a 9 hour race it started missing at high RPM just before a fuel stop. We thought it might be a fuel starvation issue, though the AFR never…

This is the transmission mount for a /72 4spd, is this the same mount that was used on the ZX cars? I know the ZX 5spd will fit on this mount, I just heard the ZX mounts were different and if anyone had a pic of it. Thanks, Chris

I've got a 1971 240Z that I am the third owner. The PO swapped out the transmission for a 5 speed and at the same time swapped the rear diff. The rear diff is marked as a 3.36 which I understand was the standard ratio on a 1971 manual (so I am confused why he changed it). I have the original rear diff and axles, but looking at what is currently installed has me confused. Take a look at the pic, it seem that the output shaft stub is welded (not bolted) to the one of the end flange yoke. Am I missing something or is this unusual (at best)? Any recommendations on how proceed? I've been thinking about a Subaru WRX STI R180 rear diff with a 3.9 or 3.54 (wit…

What is up with this elephant oil cap. I see them on ebay, being touted as if they were they holy grail. What's the story on these? did they only come on a particular year? Or are they a non North American market item? I have one in my spare parts collection. Should I shine it up and put it on? Right now, I have one of the super-rare 710 caps on my car. It's neat. If you look at it up-side-down, it says "OIL" isn't that cool?

I have replaced everything in the drivetrain except the Diff in my Z. I am going to do this in stages. First I am going to buy an R180 STI LSD differential. Already bidding on one on Ebay. Next up is the Wolf Creek output shafts so I can bolt up my half half shafts Finally after I save up a few more dollars, I will get the CV shafts form Wolf Creek to complete the conversion. I plan to take as many photos as possible. I may drop the rear suspension to replace the spring top hats. But we will see how bad the 'while I am at its get'

When my engine was getting repaired, I ordered the printed books, How to Rebuild Your Nissan & Datsun OHC Engine, and How to Modify Your Nissan and Datsun OHC Engine. while reading the descriptions of the books, I discovered that they were also available for the Kindle program, so I got the first book in digital form. I like having digital versions of books or documents because the computer can quickly search for a word or phrase, and you can store many, many books on even the smallest of flash drives or a CD or DVD. I still appreciate having printed books because you have the pleasure of browsing the pages without the limitations of screen resolution, batter…

I've got my E88 apart now and cleaning, polishing everything. My cam lobes are nice and smooth just not shiny like I feel like it should be. Sorta dull grey, but smooth as butter. Should I polish them to a shinier finish? Does shiny mean worn? Thanks Cliff

I'm wondering if the valves rotate under tension while the motor is running. I had a leaky intake valve, turned it 180 degrees and now it's tightly sealing. When I put that head back in use will that valve possibly rotate in relation to the valve seat? Thanks

Hey gang, I just found a broken front diff mount today on my race car, so rather than destroy another stock mount I thought I would install the RT mount by Techno Versions. I did a search, but couldn't find a definitive answer on whether or not to include the Energy Suspension mount or not. I saw a thread a while back about added vibrations due to a different driveshaft angle, but there was no follow-up stating if the mount was the issue. I have to get the car back together soon as I have a race coming up in a few weeks. Can the poly top-down mount be modified, or should I just order an OEM mount and the RT mount with the snubber? http://www.technoversions.com/Di…
