I think these are just emissions parts. I am about ready to take them off, but want to be sure. I have looked them up in my how to restore your 240Z book, but they give little more than a name. I honestly do not see what their purpose is at this point. Perhaps they had something to do with some form of emissions equipment? The guys at hybrid Z said it has something to do with idle control? Any help would be great.

Hi everyone, I am in the final stages of a complete rebuild of my 72 Z. 133 thousand miles on the odo. Transmission is complete, head done with a midly agressive cam, block refinished and bored to .030, crank polished, ground and balanced. I had ordered a "complete" engine kit including fuel, oil water pump, all gaskets pistons, rings. This kit was ordered from a well known z car parts supplier. I received the kit and a thourough inspection by me and my trusted mechanic exposed the following issues: 1. Head gasket was too thick and did not fit correctly. 2. Pistons were ITM make and skirts ( bottom) was 0.5-1mm wider than the piston head. They were also 26-30 g…

I've got a 76 280z 2+2 with EFI that I've been "refreshing" over the past couple of years. Everything is pretty much stock. I've just recently been taking some test drives and as mentioned it seemed to be running great. Then on the way home after turning off on a side street at about 20 mph it just died. It happened so fast I'm not even sure how to describe it. It's kind of like it lost all power or else its like the new fuel pump I recently put in quit or ... Like I mentioned, it happened so fast I'm not sure what happened. So I coasted to the side of the road and when I tried to start it, it fired right up. So I continued heading home, which was only about 1 mile away, …

Hi guys, I recently picked up a 3.1L stroker for the Z that I'm going to swap into it in the next couple months and was hoping for an opinion on clutch choices. I actually already have two: a six puck clutch and a centerforce clutch. I got both of them with the engine and a 5 speed. I'm looking to maintain streetability through this evolution but I'm not sure which one is the best way to go and was hoping for opinions. Again, I have both of them brand new already so whichever one I don't use I'm just going to sell off anyway. Thoughts and opinions are very much appreciated! Thanks! Chris

Just replaced my fusible link yesterday, which was kindly sent to me by Michael Mcginnis at Banzai Motorworks. The male connector was not bad, so i just cleaned it with a brass brush wire and replace the plastic Shell. The female which is attached to the starter was fully replaced as it appeared to have taken a lot of heat. Anyway, while craking the car out of the parking in reverse and sliding 1st, i did notice the car coughs and presents a slight hesitation. Not as it used to before, but still some hesitation. Is this normal when the car is cold? I have deleted all of the emission crap on top and asides of the balance tube. Could this be cause of this coughing and low…

Is there anything else than the Spectre Performance cone filters that you can use on the rocker box? The biggest one in the AP stores only has a 10 or 13mm neck, and the tube on the top of the rocker box has an 18mm (3/4 inch) tube. I thought a small diameter inline filter would be better than a 2 inch cone, and I don't like piping the oil blow-by into the intake manifold Check the lawn mower or cycle shop maybe? thxZ

I was advised to have the driveshaft (propeller shaft) balanced after putting new U-joints, which is scheduled to happen this week. There's a new vibration last few weeks that may or not have to do with the U-joints. No vibration previously, and the driveshaft hasn't been altered or dropped, so balancing seems unnecessary to me. But maybe I'm wrong.

I'm putting together my conversion to SU's from the weber DVG's. I think I have everything but the heat shield, and I just realized that thats how the throttle spring return attaches. If you have a spare i'll take it off of your hands. The SU's are round tops if that makes any difference.

Hello all. I just put in a F54/N47 combo into my 240z. The cam/rockers have some burn/wear marks on them. My original plan was to run this for the time being, and send in the old L24 cam off to rebello for their cam kit, and the rockers off to delta for a refresh. I'm now thinking a smarter idea would be to send the N47 cam/rockers away for a refresh since they are not in the best shape. Not having done any head work before, can I swap the cam, rockers, springs retainers and lash pads from the l24 head onto the l28 without any drama? I assume I'd have to check the wipe pattern no matter what as the seats may be different heights? The bonus side to this, is the l24 has a m…

5sp from '81 zx non-turbo came with an engine that i re-built, was said to be fine, so all i did was replace the front & rear seals before installing. noticed 2 things during install: 1 - the return spring plug was removed and in a bag of misc parts along with the shift lever pin & boot. the plunger was missing, so i poached the one from my '78 4sp along with the matching springs & plug. 2 - when i checked shifting (before putting in boot cover) the striking rod pulled out exposing the o-ring seal. the stopper guide pin was out (i found it in the aforementioned bag of goodies). i rotated it back/forth a bit until i could jigger it back in, then installed …

I was looking around on eBay to see if there was a nicer battery hold-down bar, and found this item, called a Battery Stay Fire Wall Plate It's for the 28Z and says it's OEM stuff, but I've never seen it in any parts diagram or service book. Does anyone really know what is is? ThxZ

I got my repaired and re-worked E31 cylinder head back on. The work was done by a very reputable local machine shop and have full confidence everything was done to the highest quality spec. You can see what all was done here -> http://www.classiczcars.com/topic/49581-hardways-1971-240z-8011-build-and-repair-thread/page-6 With everything back together and the engine running I noticed I had a pretty loud tapping sound from the cylinder head. Before I ever started the car I did an initial valve job setting everything to factory spec, .008 for the intake and .010 for the exhaust. Once I heard the tapping sound last weekend I called it a day and came back this morni…
