Hi A friend of mine has some problems with his Z, and is about to give up so I want to give him a helping hand He was out driving when suddenly the engine went sour and stopped. This was about a year ago. Since then we have tried lots of things, like new plugs, new plug cables, different distributor, new coil, ignition adjustment ++ When we changed the distributor we got it running good, but it only lasted for a short trip and then back to the same starting point. Here's a video of how it is at the moment: https://youtu.be/7Jx_rV4Z62s Can this be carb related? All the plugs are getting wet, but it sounds like it's only igniting on one or tw…

My friend has -73 240z with auto transmission, and im asking this on behalf of him as he dont speak english. It changes gears really roughly, i mean the whole car goes like BUMP. I already suggested that he changes oils in it but is there any other adjustments you can make to it externally to perhaps smoothen it up?

There is a tempting deal not too far from me on a complete rebuilt short block from a 78 Z. I am considering picking it up to replace my tired current motor until I rebuild the F54 turbo motor I kept from one of my other cars. It apparently has less than 2000 miles on the rebuild. The seller built up an F54 with flat tops & kept his head. The pistons, from the pictures are dinged up, and are what concerns me. Is this a major problem, will it cause any issues? Any idea of what could have caused it? Its only 90 miles away from me, is cheap, and if it is indeed a fairly fresh rebuild - new timing set, rings, bearings, etc. looks like a heck of a deal. …

I've got a decision to make, buy a 1 ton cherry picker and come at it from the side or buy a larger hoist and come in from the front. I've got limited space for storing the thing I'll use maybe once a year. Do many people do it this way? Thanks for any replies, Cliff

Well my r180 differential is in need for some love. It's getting pretty noisy and feels like it has some play in it. Unfortunately the local transmission shops here in Great Falls aren't interested in working on it. Can any of you recommend a shop to send it to? Cheers, Scot

the p79 head on my engine build has a 2-wire temp sender at the back on the plug side. the car is a '78, but will be set up with su's so no ecu. question is: should i use the head-mounted 2-wire sender or the T-stat mounted one for the gauge in my dash? if so, how do i wire it?

Hello everyone. Sorry for the newbie questions. I now have my recently purchased L28 F54 block with flat top pistons combined with N47 head in my living room. Ready to look over and hoping to install this summer. The head was apparently rebuilt, onto a block with about 30,000 miles. It had never been run. I bought a very unknown condition engine. I've taken the valve cover over and the head was certainly dissembled/cleaned, and after going through my "How to Modify your Datsun... book" I am reasonably certain that it will run without grenading completely.. What i'm concerned about is the block. I took off the oil pan because it needed to be painted. Since …

I've had no problem in the past setting the ignition timing on few different L6 motors, various 240z/280z style timing marks, etc. so I'm kind of stumped on what's happening. Quick overview: this motor was actually built by another owner, I bought it and had it crated over, dropped it in to replace my dead blow through set up. I was told the specs for it, complete bottom rebuild/head/cam setup to my liking. Crank pulley that came with the motor is a single groove, I can't tell if it's the euro version (the ring portion looks different), and doesn't seem to match any aftermarket pulleys either, so confused here as well. There are multiple grooves / timing marks on…

Finally took it upon myself to rebuild my 1970 240z L24 engine. Nothing too wild. Went .20 over, installed new seats, valves, springs, bearings, ARP head studs, main studs, rod bolts and clutch bolts (yes. overkill, But I want to trust the engine). Finishing up gapping the rings, and installing them. Bearings and crank should be installed by the end of this weekend. The Datsoon marches on. More to come as it all comes along.

I have a 240z which actually has a Champion 3 row radiator and the original plastic fan blade. When i am stuck in traffic the temperature in the temp gauge rises to 3/4. I have been recommended to get a Fan Shroud for this radiator as i am looking forward to install a Vintage Gen II Mini evaporator and Sanden 508 compressor. What kind of fan shroud shall i purchase for this radiator? Plastic or metal? Which Brand? any other recommendations? Been looking around and cant find any that could possibly fit. Anyone??

Hi! I have an L24 with the original E88 head on it now. This head makes bad noises and needs work, but I have an N47 head that I took from an L24e engine. Can I mount the N47 head on my early L24 block with SU's and stock head gasket without any issues? Will this give a CR bump? Only concern I can come to think of is that the L24E had dishtop pistons, and I am pretty sure that the E88 L24 has flattop? Just trying to find the cheapest way to get rid of the bad noises as this is just a temporary engine Regards, Tomzern
