I'll post pics soon, but this is a dirty, untested head that I bought years ago, presented to me as good. I can go clean it and do the big valve job, etc, but I'd rather just sell it. 150.00 takes it. Thanks Curtis

So I'm working on an N42/N42 L28 rebuild. I've read several places you should always put pistons back in the same cylinder they came from. I can understand that you want to keep the complete rod together, but I can't figure out why you need to put the piston back in the same cylinder if you hone the cylinder and replace the rings. Any engine gurus out there who can explain if and why it is necessary to put the piston back in the same cylinder even when you have the cylinder honed and use new rings? Thanks.

It might be a little difficult to see it but I have a slight fluctuation in the vacuum gauge. I remember my old truck had this but a little worse and I had to replace the valve. The counter weight in the AFM bounces too. Do I need to be concerned? https://youtu.be/woHqz7JVLQ0

Hi all. I bought a L28 motor from the late great John Williams, and I am getting ready to install it, but I decided to do all those upgrades that I would want to do later, while it is still on the stand. I bought a ZX distributor yesterday, but when I went to install it, I didn't see any way to secure it to the front cover. Are all front covers the same on the L-series? I will take pics tonight and add them, but I had a dead moment at work to get the ball rolling. I'd rather sound like an idiot and get the problem solved than keep my pride and never find the answer. So I'm swapping some flat top pistons from a 280ZX F54 block into my N42/N42 engine. I acquired them as part of a parts car I bought. Last night I discovered one of them has a cracked skirt so now I'm looking to get 1 or 2 more pistons. So anybody have some flat top L28 pistons around? Maybe somebody who has a stroker project? Thanks.

I recently installed a 2 row Champion radiator on my 71 240Z. I also installed twin electric radiator fans. The radiator is a great product. The electric fans not so much. Poor cooling in stop and go traffic, and they draw lots of amps. I run a 160 thermostat which keeps the temp fine when moving, but for extended stops or idling, the temp gauge climbs more than I feel comfortable with. I think the stock fan with a correctly functioning clutch and a SHROUD, is the way to go. So, has anyone installed the MSA aftermarket shroud to the Champion radiator without having to modify anything? I still have my original metal fan, but I tossed my old radiator and have no way to comp…

My 71 240Z (L24engine) runs 75 lbs. of oil pressure at 3000 rpm. It's not a defective gauge. What can cause high oil pressure in a Z motor? The engine has 2000 miles on it and runs perfect.

My 240z has a 280z transmission installed. I just changed the speedometer cable due that the needle on the speedometer was bouncing when reaching 60mph. After being replaced with Brand new cable it is all the way around. It bounces from 0 to 40 mph. My mechanic says he needs to have the differential drive ratio. I found this page: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/GearRatios.HTML But still cant understand why he is asking me for this? Will i need to purchase a 5 speed pinion gear due to wear on the teeth? Could this be the cause of the needle bouncing? Anyone?

I had the day off today so I decided to remove the valve cover and check valve lash and what ever else came to mind. Lash was off on #6 intake only. I adjusted valve lash in January so all is still good. Decided to look at my timing chain and cam sproket Then I checked plugs Taken with flash made them look too lean Then checked cam timing And then looked at cam lobes. They look good. Everything seems to look ok, what do you think? Ok too weird, pictures posted upside down. Why? They were right as I attached them.

I've got a spare engine which came with the Z that I purchased several years back. The spare was an engine that was used for "racing" but there were no details on the internals or what kind of racing. I'm looking for a project on the Z and an excuse to crack open an engine to get some hands on learning. Looking for opinions on what to do. (slow day at work) -swap it in and see how it runs -open it up to see if it's bone stock or not -tear it down for no reason besides putting it all back together for fun and learning Side note, currently have a running L28 in the car now and have never pulled an engine apart.

Has anyone tried buffing or polishing the intake manifold (Mine is the L28E) while it it on the engine? I have been rubbing it with some different grades of sandpaper and steel wool so far, to get to the good metal under the oxidation and a bit of shine. It looks like Spring may be coming early, or I might get the torpedo heater back soon, so I could try polishing soon. I would like to just do the plenum part of it first, and then later, take off the fuel injection s stuff and get the runners too. I figure I would need a kind of a high-powered moto tool with a long flexible extension and a small buffing wheel, right? Then just a lot of black polish and time & …
