Hi all, I am in the middle of rebuilding my 5 sp. trans (FS5W71C) . I am stuck at getting the OD gear bushing off - it's just about the last thing I need to get off to be able to replace a noisy main bearing. Anybody have any experience with this problem? Do I press on the main shaft and the other side of the adapter plate or do I try to get behind the reverse gear on the shaft? Heat it up with a torch? Thanks!

My 71 240's engine is leaky and tired (compression test numbers are all over the map). I am debating a couple of engine options that i've found. -L24 with N42 head. -L28 Flattop with N42 head. The L24 would be cheaper..but would probably make a bit less power. The L28 with N42 would obviously have more displacement and higher compression (roughly 10:1 vs 8.7:1 with the L24/n42 head). I'd be looking at using a stock N42 cam most likely...using my dual SU's, 6-1 header and MSA exhaust. Any ideas how much power I'd be looking at with these two options? I've been researching and some seem to say the high compression build run into detonation issues and you …

So it looks like I am going to replace my valve seals, I do not own a spring compressor tool and from what I can find the KD 3087 is no longer sold. Has anyone used any of these types (the style more so than the brand) and if so which one works best? http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=203&division=1&category=6 http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=49&division=1&category=6 http://www.lislecorp.com/divisions/products/?product=645&division=1&category=6 Thanks Dan

Anyone have a recommendation for a set of rings? Like everything else, there's too many choices on the internet. I've found Sealed Power and Hastings have a set of premium rings, moly faced. Has someone recently purchased a set for 83mm bores? Thanks for any help, Cliff

Hello All. I had ordered in a Head Gasket for my 1971 240Z with E31 head from my local Nissan dealer, and he ordered in part number 11044-27L01. After waiting a great deal of time I was informed that this gasket is NLA. The other Nissan number that is available was 11044-N4221, showing fitment for Z cars from 12/74 onward. My question is does anyone know of this part number being used on an E31 head. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, My engine builder has just informed me that after mounting my pistons, ITM brand, item number RY2516-030, they are protruding above the deck of the block. The top of the P30 block was decked with about 5-7 thou removed, so that is not the problem. They measured the piston height to the old ones that came out before mounting (a slight difference of 5 thou) and after mounting them on the rod bolts and into the cylinder, they protrude about 30 thou above the block, Does any one have a theory as to why this would happen.

Hi Quick question for those in the know. I've got an early e88 head with 1mm shave. I took all my n42 head towers cam etc and have placed them on this head done the blue printing etc etc. my question is will the head have sufficient lubrication with the N42 cam towers and internal oiling cam?? Are the oil journals in the head cast suited to the application? Or should I put a oiler bar on? If anyone could shed some knowledge that would be great. Cheers Al

Have a 71 with a 4bbl carb intake on it. brake booster vacuum line is not plugged in so no power brakes. Have 6 open holes on intake but can't find a good vacuum port. No balance tube on intake but holes are there and open on both sides. Car runs good but the lack of vacuum is puzzling. Other than switching to a factory SU setup where can I pull vacuum from?

Hello all, I'm looking for info if anyone has ever run an P90 head on a dished piston L28 block (Yes, a L28et without the turbo). If you care for the details you can read the rambling story below. Maybe a bit of a silly question, but some of you may have some quality input. I've stumbled across a L28et engine in my area for a great deal. I have been searching for a while, and i've had two ideas in my head which both involve said engine. Either A, do the turbo engine swap, or B, get some flattop pistons, shave and shim the head and run a higher compression N/A engine. Both have their complications and their costs but for now I am looking on a temporary solution. …

I've looked around a lot and there isn't much to choose from. I can go forged for $1500~, go Chinese for $400-500, or go through the Z store for $101 (ea). I want some quality rods (all new or in really good shape) but there isn't anything reasonable for my budget ($700 is where I want to top out at). I'm surprised Eagle doesn't make rods for the L24. I love their rods. I would go though the Z store but there isn't any actual information about the product itself. It's just listed as a connecting rod for the L24. So I'm assuming they are stock rods. I don't plan on building the engine for high horsepower, but if I'm tearing into the block, why not spend a little bit for ro…

I'm going to put a bar across my garage ceiling joist for a hoist to pull a motor and transmission and would like to know a roundabout weight of the engine with transmission attached. Thanks, Cliff

Hey mates So to fix my shifter vibration I pulled the shifter out to do the brass bushing replacement. To my amazement it was already done, but since I wasted all the time walking to the store I figured it'd do it again. Pulled the old brass bushings out and squeezed the new ones in. After some filing and help from a mallet everything was back in to place. Before I buttoned everything up I checked up on my driveshaft. I replaced the drive shaft back in 2009 with a new one from MSA - the one with greaseable ujoints. Question wise, what is acceptable for veritcal - up and down - movement of the driveshaft. There is a bit of play up and down. Otherwise everything seems wel…
