I have a 5 speed manual transmission that I just pulled and cleaned up a bit. I have read the following articles and i think i have identified it as a wide ratio 5 speed due to the fact that it has two mounting ears on the tail and the spedo cog bolt is at 12 o'clock Technical Information Page ..... Transmission Differential Ratios What confuses me is the three sensors located on my transmission. Logic tells me that one of them should be for a neutral safety switch, one of them for a backup light and theres no need for a third. The third sensor was also disconnected on my car. Can I get a second opinion:

Wow, that oil pan gasket job that I thought was going to be easy was a total bust! I ended up taking the pan back off because I could not get the gasket holes to line up with the holes in the block and pan. RTV sealer all over everything, including my helper. Are there any tricks I should be using? I had the whole pan/gasket combo glued together with sealer, but it slipped around during the install. Maybe I could get some really long bolts and thread them down through the block (where that is possible) as temporary guides. Now I have to order another gasket and get more sealer too. More room between the block and the crossmember would help line it up. One more i…

My 1972 240z was rebuilt with crank and rods from a L26, special oversized 84mm flat top black coated pistons from D.L. Potter Engineering with E88 Head and Far 311 New Race Cam. It also has the original Hitachi dual carburetors. The carbs have been rebuilt. I am looking for a camshaft and rockers for day to day use and not for performance or drag as the one it actually carries. Can someone point out what parts will i need to replace my cam including the rockers and other components and which of this 2 companies provide better hi quality parts: ISKY Racing Cams - Do It Right. Race with the Legend. Camshafts, Connecting Rods, Valve Springs, Lifters Schneider Racing Cams: …

Late last year, I started developing an exhaust leak from the number 6 port which was... of course, broken off flush with the head. Probably has been broken for many years before I got the car. With the nice summer weather, I decided to replace the gasket & install all new high grade studs & bolts. Let PB Blaster go to work for a few days and went to work. I removed the manifolds and used left hand drill bits to extract the broken studs. (number 1 was also broken off - discovered when i removed the manifolds) Number 1 backed out by the time I got up to about a 3/16th bit. Number 6 refused to comply, so I drilled it out and re-tapped for the stud. Patience i…

I want to swap my tranny to FS5W71C from '90 240SX. In order to swap tranny, I need to shorten driveshaft(propeller shaft). Before, sending my '76 280z driveshaft to shop, I try to replace 40 year old U-joint. This driveshaft comes with staked u-joint, which is none-replaceable u-joint. I follow Blue's information to order u-joint. http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/ujoint/index.html I couldn't find spicer, so I got precision 391 instead. It looks like too big to fit... When I measure the diameter, it's 25mm and match with Blue's information. But when I get original u-joint.. it's 22mm When I search more, it looks like rockford is selling u-joint specifi…

Been having rough idle issues on traffic jams and stop lights tending to lower my rpm under 800 rpm. My mechanic recommended to swap the Far 311 Race cam which i believe according to Schneider website has the following specs: 311F Datsun L-6 Camshaft I would like to point out also that the engine on the car was rebuilt with crank and rods from a L26, special oversized 84mm flat top black coated pistons from D.L. Potter Engineering with E88 Head and Far 311 New Race Cam. Some users say to stay away from MSA cams. WHat about ISKY cams? I really need a reliable advice so i can order the stock cam and rockers to get rid of the idle issues ASAP.

I have gone back to the stock style mechanical clutched fan on my 240z for now along with a MSA shroud that is on the way. My car had dual 10 or 12 inch cooling fans on it but the temp probe for the wiring kit would have required bending up some of the fins on my brand new Champion radiator and I did not want do that. I am wondering, can you use the original sending unit that is near the thermostat housing to also trigger a set of electric fans? Basically having 2 wires on it instead of the just 1 wire for the gauge in the dash? I have seen more advanced wiring kits that include a screw in temp sending unit but as of right now by engine only has the single sending uni…

One of the two close ratio 5 spds that I rebuilt last winter jumps out of 4th gear on deceleration. It was rebuilt using the correct rebuild kit and I'm sure it all went back together properly. I want to open it up again this winter to try and fix it but I really don't what I would do differently, any ideas? Thanks, Chris

OK, I know for what ever reason the MN47 head is very controversial subject in the Z community. I know of a 81 Maxima being parted put in my town. And I plan to do a mild warm up of my L26 in my near future. rebuilt SUs, electronic ignition, exhaust, cam and a mildly ported head, is kind of the basic plan I'm thinking right now. something that'll be a bit quicker but can still be driven every day, that plan could very likely change fast, but we'll have to see. I searched a ton about it last night, and I found everything from its awful to it's the best L series head availible stock. I doubt either are true. We have a very old very reputable head shop here in town where Im …

I have a 1970 240Z with the original real end, but with a later model 4-speed manual tranny. The Speedo is reading about 10 mph low at 60 m.p.h. I don't know which speedo cog I have. I think it's the black one. Which one will increase the speed? Should I count the teeth and go to one with more teeth? Coop
