Hi everyone! My name is Mark and I will be restoring my 1976 280Z coupe HLS30-271295 starting this year. I look forward to your feedback and help as I am sure most of you have a lot of experience with restoring your own cars! I am hoping you will all chip in and help me avoid some common pitfalls and mistakes along the way. I will post photos and updates as I go. For now, these are pics of the day I picked up the car in Calgary in March of last year.

I just got the 280Z dyno’d today. The Rebello was expected to run around 300hp, but no lower than the 280s range. it came out with 180hp. It was tuned in April, and still runs rich. The technician said the timing seemed off and it didn’t like the pull in 4th gear at higher RPMs. any ideas on how to get it to 300hp range?

Well after forty years of ownership I'm finally starting a second go around at restoring my 1970 240Z. I purchased the car well used in 1978 with 90,000 plus miles from the local Datsun Dealership in Chilliwack, BC Canada. Here is a picture from July '78: Here is what it looks like today. Looks reasonable but the paint is showing its age and there are some other issues lurking that need to be fixed properly. Full disclosure will come later. Restoration number one was done in 1982 and I only did what I could afford at the time. I actually think this first attempt of was really "Canadian maintenance", my poor Zed was at a do or die…

Hi guys. I figured I should start a build thread in here. The actual restoration is very close to being complete, but this seems like a good place to document a few things and perhaps ask little questions so I don't clutter up the main subforums with little inquiries when I can't find the answer. Anyway, this is about 93069, which my dad bought new in October of 1972 from Cardinal Motors in Jacksonville, NC. He was 21 years old at the time and just starting his senior year at NC State. The car's block number is 118555 and it has a built date of 07/72 (right around the brake system crossover). Original color: 901 Silver over red vinyl, dealer-installed factory ai…

Greetings, Ive been a Z owner in my own right since 2008 (1992 300ZX N/A) but inherited I inherited a 1971 240Z which needed a lot of work. In 2012 I unfortunately had to sell it to a good friend (ortegadrives on youtube). My father told me when I sold the 240Z that his 1977 280Z was as good as mine. My father has a friend interested in buying my 300ZX, which currently has electrical issues but overall solid car regardless. I purchased a Rebello 3.1 Stroker (actually from Dave Record in 2007 to install in the 240Z, still best purchase of my life). The stock 280Z engine was removed roughly 3 years ago by myself and OrtegaDrives and the engine bay is empty. We hav…

Hey guys, back again with a new project! I'll let Dave fill you in on all the cars history but over the next nine months will tear her down and address all the issues that haven't been tackled already. From what I understand, over the last couple of decades Dave has been working slowly restoring individual parts and doing some body work. He has done some very nice work as you will see, for right now I'm going to take stock of what still has to be done and make a plan for this winter when I'll bring it into the shop for rust surgery. At first glance it has rust in all the usual areas but overall is a good candidate to become a very nice driver. After we …

So this is another car that has been sitting around at our places for decades. It was my daily driver in about 1992. I rebuilt the engine in high school and it has a five speed that I installed at some point. It has gotten very rusty over the years. I am planning on trying to save it at some point now that a great many more good body panels are available now, if I live long enough. I decided that I would pull the drive train and use it in Lily for the time being to get her running and then down the road I will probably go L28eT, but after Zcon 2024. So that is what we did today Surrounded by BMW parts and parts cars Added some p…

Hi all Really looking forward to starting this project and getting all of your input and advice along the way! Im new to this forum, Ive spent lots of time lurking though! I have been posting on the australian forum but traffic is quite low on there so hoping to get quicker input on here. I did also consider hybridz but I think my resto will be more in line with classiczcars as Im not transplanting a V10 into mine... Names Ryan, I am the long time owner of a 1971 240z here in Perth Western Australia. Vin is HS30-001063 I have owned the car for 10 years. When I bought the car it was in rough condition, tried to get it running to enjoy for a while but the pre…

The paint job on this car is gorgeous! I love seeing this in my garage even though it is not mine. It looks right at home with my other cars. After a two year break, I am back restoring Z cars....in my retirement. I love it. I did some of the work on this Z back in San Diego for a good friend of mine (the owner). I helped install the motor and transmission, all of the glass, most of the interior as well as the electrical harness refurb and wiper motor refurb. To make a long story short, I moved to Idaho, the owner is moving to Texas and not much has been done on the car since I left San Diego. I was asked to complete the build by the owner which I am more than…

Finally getting around to starting a "Build Thread". Background on me...I'm 40 years old and honestly didn't give cars or motoring a minutes thought until about 3 years ago. I never wanted a sports car or cared anything about the performance of whatever I was driving. I do a lot of work at Road Atlanta Race Track in Braselton GA and have for the past 20 years. Around 3 years ago I started getting a campsite and weekend tickets for the Walter Mitty HSR Historic races down at the track because it seemed like something fun that my then 8 year old son would enjoy. The first year he could care less about the cars but enjoyed the camping and food. The 2nd year we camped right b…

First, a little history about me and why I love Z cars: Ever since I was a little kid, I have always loved the Datsun Z car. My uncle had a 1970 Datsun 240Z that provided many fond memories. I always told him, “If you ever sell this, call me, I will buy it from you.” Unfortunately, that day never came because it caught fire while parked in the driveway after a Sunday drive many years ago. The fire mechanically totaled it. I was so upset and angry, but I am sure that my grief was nothing compared to my uncle’s emotions. Fast forward to the present (or at least a few years ago). My son (much like his father) develops an interest in cars. I decided that I wa…
