Can you use an ECU from a 1980 280zx in a 1978 280z? I think my ECU is the base of a problem we're having with my car but I really don't want to have to buy a new one to find that mine is ok. So, we also have a 280zx that runs great and I was hoping we could plug that one in to see if it fixes the problem. Then I'd buy a new one. If not is there a way of testing an ECU to see if it is bad? We have access to all the tools a mechanic could ever ask for so if theres a tool or a way to test them or if they are interchangeable in those years please help me out! Just trying to eliminate things so anything is helpful thanks

When my engine is cold I have to usually floor it before I crank and keep throttling it for a minute or two before the engine will run. Once it gets warmed up, it's runs and idles no problem. I'm thinking it's the cold start valve or thermotime switch, is there anything else I need to look at?

I have an N47 Head with F/I. I noticed that there seems to be 2 different types of Intake manifolds. One that looks like it has 6 separate tubes and the the other (like i have) with the tubes all webbed together. Is there a difference. I would also like to get rid of the EGR seeing how i have headers and i dont need to smog it. Is there any suggestions for performance and/or for looks. That EGR is sooo ugly!!! Thanks guys

Upon deceleration of my '78 280Z (EFI) the rpm drops past the idle speed of 800 down to around 500 or less, sometimes stalling. I currently have to keep my idle speed set around 900 rps for it to not stall. Anyone have an idea why this is happening?

I'll give a little background on what she's doing and what I've done. car runs great cold but when it reaches normal operating temp the idle gets rough, (sounds like it has a cam but, i'm certain it doesn't) and it's hard to take off from a stop unless you coax up the rpm's a bit. (it also stumbles when cruising at low rpm's). I did the entire EFI system check through the ECU bus as per the fuel injection bible. The only item that didn't check out was the water temp sensor which i replaced but saw little to no improvment in the cars performance. next did a fuel pressure check and found it only to be running at about 20psi and not holding pressure. bad check valve in p…

Hi I have a 1976 260 2+2 and a 1982 280ZX parts car. I want fuel injection and the L28 engine in the 260, however I also have a very low klm 1985 MR30 skyline L24E complete with wiring loom, ecu. My question is what would the differances be in the injection manifolds? Would the ports be the same and injectors? The skyline injection manifold looks the same but with much less cluttered with add on junk. Any ideas what would be the best setup? Thanks

I just started noticing this condition in my 79 ZX. It only happens when you try to start the car after is has already run and been sitting for about fifteen minutes or so. Sputtering, missing, backfiring. Seems like a "hot soak" issue. I found this link on Zcar.com. Note two other long time 280 Z owners have had the issue recently, for the first time. I just celebrated 20 years with this car, and it's never happened before. Wonder if it's related to ethanol in gas these days? There is a great discussion of it at this link: http://www.zcar.com/forums/883144/vapor-lock-heat-soak-voodoo-whatever-you-wanna-call-it Note the discussion includes references to the check valve on…

I have a 280z engine and both a fuel injection setup and a carboration setup and I don't know which one would be better. What are the pros and cons?

I'm trying to help a friend with what seems to be fueling problems on his '79 280ZX. He lives in a different city, which limits what I can do. Here's a recent note from him: "I connected a vacuum meter between the intake manifold and the fuel pressure regulator and hooked a pressure gauge to the fuel rail and took the Z out for a drive. For about the first five minutes the vacuum gauge read normal and the fuel pressure would vary from about 30 to 36 lbs and the car ran quite well. About a mile down the road the vacuum gauge started acting erratic and the fuel pressure also varied around 28-30lbs seeming to respond to the changes in vacuum. A few minutes later the vacuum …
