Hi all, I have a mostly stock and very nice condition, low mileage 240Z. I drive her very frequently these days, so I have made some modifications to make daily driving more enjoyable/bearable. I started with new struts and springs (kept the originals if I sell to someone who wants the old parts). The project I am working on right now is setting up the stereo to be reasonably nice but also sound better and accept an aux-in from my ipod. I have ordered the "retrosound" head unit from Crutchfield so I can have a modern tuner and aux-in but preserving most of the stock look (I will keep the old parts as well) I removed the interior rear quarter panels and to my surprise the…

Does anyone have any recommendations on how to get rid of that old musty odor lurking in the nooks and crannies of a 30+ year old Z car? My goal is to get the car's interior as close as possible to how she smelled when she rolled off the showroom floor sometime in late 1977-78. I've got the entire interior, dash and carpet out and have been cleaning dust, grime and STUFF from as many places as I can reach. Have also cleaned up the dash, seats, door panels, vinyl trim and plastic interior trim pieces as well as the inside areas of the rear quarter panels, hatch area and behind/underneath the dash area back to the firewall. I've also let her air out quite a bit, in addition…

I ordered the full carpet kit and should be ready to install them sometime next week. The question that I have is, are there some type of board/cover over the trunk like the newer day cars? If so, what would you call that and where may I possibly go to find this part before I install the trunk carpet?

Title says it all. There must be dozens of similar threads but i'll start this anyway. I recently bought 72 240Z from California and it was dirty as hell from inside. Door panels are ok but there is some primer stains and LOTS of other dirt i need to get rid of. I tried Turle Wax leather cleaner, well it cleaned a bit but not all. Also, are they even real leather? Also the plastics are faded, need to bring them back to original glory, suggestions taken! Seats are almost in mint condition, except for stitchings. Are they real leather? Thank you!!

Hi all I spent the last half hour using the search feature but still cannot find what I'm looking for. My Z is missing two of the ducts (plastic tubes) that run air to the outside vents. Does anyone know where one could get these or what else can be used? It's fairly annoying only having air come out of the center vents and no on the sides. Thanks Jan

There's a pair of vinyl-covered hooks for the 240Z shoulder belts to rest in. Goes over part of the plastic panel for the quarter-window, I believe. Which hole does it go in? The lowest, closest to front of car? What sort of screw/finish washer etc. arrangement? Thanks for any info, Steve.

Hello everyone, A week or so ago I put a post on the Help Me forum about my heater cables. I read every post in the search about heater cables. I still haven't seen anything about how they are actually routed at the end/ mounted on the mechanisms they operate. I weigh about 280, and I'm six feet tall. I have to lay on my ear to see up in there. My shoulders are very wide, I can't lay on my ear, and get both arms where I need them to be. Trail and error on this one might very well get the best of me. I've ordered the cable clips for a mere $18.00. However I still haven't figured out whether they slide onto the long stud at the top of the mechanism or the short bit at…

Well I finally got around to mounting my seats and 4 point harness and ran into a couple of snags. The seats are pretty well too wide for the car, but fit snugly. The bad part is the rear strap on the harness is way too long even with the slack pulled out. Is there another way to mount these with the set-up I have and not snap my back? I know many people wrap there's around a strut tower bar, but mine isnt set up that way. Assuming the car runs and drives fine after I finally get it going I will probaly just by a regular seat belt set from MSA. I just dont like this harness, but it is what came with the car. Also, After making sure all of the rear suspension on my 72 w…

I'm looking at a 78 280z to buy that has the original radio. I want to replace it with a cd player/radio. How much can I expect to pay for something that is good quality (the stereo and labor for a place to put it in for me)? Thanks, C

Hello All, I searched around but couldn't get the answer I was looking for. I need to know if any 240z's marked as a 1972 model had the older style center consoles with the ashtray below the radio vs the ones with the metal sliding ones behind the shift boot?? Or did all 1972 240z's have the metal sliding type consoles?

I picked these seats up at the salvage yard this afternoon. Found them in a '77 Porche 924, but they are not the original seats from that car. They did not use the stock seat mounts, instead there were holes drilled through the floor to mount these seats in the Porsche. I've searched the photo gallery and also online, but haven't found anything exactly like these. They say "TURBO" beneath the head rest. There are two dials on the side, one for lumbar support and the other pulls in the upper side supports. There is also an adjustable thigh support (moves up & down). I set them in my project 240Z and it looks like they will work, although I'll probably have to cu…

I have a set of original carpets in my early '71 that are in pretty good shape. They are the cut pile type. Problem is that the sun faded them while it lived in the South. What experiences have you had with dyeing carpets? Please share any tips and tricks you may have found. Things to stay away from would be good hear too. My first thought was to use RIT fabric dye. I have also heard some people say to use SEM vinyl dye. I have used the SEM on door panels with fantastic results. It just seems odd to use it on carpet though. The brown jute underneath the carpet is shot too. So far I have not been able to find a supplier for that. If anyone has found a source, let me…
