Right now I am trying to fix my jammed lock mechnism and the part keeping me from even getting the door panel off is the damned plate behind the interior handle. The passenger side comes off with ease but I noticed the PO put a piece of 3M sticky tape on the back. On the drivers side he must've put friggin' gorilla glue cause its not coming off no matter how much force i put on it. I'm even using a putty knife and a box cutter at this point and I've only managed to lift the darned thing a couple mm. I need to get it off to get to the screw behind it!!!!

Did the glovebox on the 1978 280Z have a big notch in the back? I mean the right side is deeper than the left, so the owner's manual doesn't lay flat- you have to curl it up. I think it's notched for the defroster hose to have room back there. I'm just used to a glove box with a regular square shape, or is that right with the notch? thxZ

The transmission tunnel on my 73 gets hot on the driver's side, which is normal, I guess, due to the exhaust being on that side. While I've got the interior out, I'm trying to insulate the tunnel. I put on two layers of Raammat, followed by a layer of Ensolite, and then took it for a drive. I also did the same under the drivers seat and up the luggage riser. I have to say that I'm not impressed. I don't think the tunnel is any cooler than it was with the stock jute insulation. I wonder how many layers of this stuff its going to take to knock down the heat. Anyone have any experience using it for heat blockage? I will say that when I put the old jute and new carpe…

Hi All, 1) Anyone know of a source for 240Z the diamond pattern vinyl? The rear kit I bought from MSA fits poorly and two pieces are undersized. Given this, I think I'd be better off making new pieces from vinyl stock. I actually sew pretty well... 2) I decided to make & install my own door pillar vinyl and upper front trim pieces from vinyl stock. Problem is, it's one of the few areas of the car for which I don't have pics. I searched the forum gallery, but could not find any. Does anyone know whether it's still possible to get a new '73 heater control panel – for a European car with AIR "off" on the right hand side? I've read here that you can still order the 73 version of the panel from Nissan dealers in the US, and I know the 69-72 version is for sale from Datsun Spirit http://store.datsunspirit.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=5 but that one has the "off" on the left, whereas my old one has "off" on the right. I'm assuming this is simply a change made between LHD and RHD models, and that my version of the controls slide in the opposite direction to those for the US market. Does anyone know if new door latch mechanisms are available anywhere? I'm referring to the mechanism that slams into the door striker and secures the door shut. The ones on my 240z seem to be pretty beat up and are not functioning smoothly.
