I'm currently in the process of rebuilding the seats in my 73 240z. I'm using new foam from MSA. Upon disassembly of the seat back I noticed a layer of brown straw like material about an inch thick that was between the foam and the seat upholstery. Any idea why this is there, and should I reuse it? It smells kind of musty so I don't want to use it if I don't have to. If I do need it, is there some other material available I can use or should I just leave it out all together. Thanks, Paul (z3beemer)

I have a hodge-podge of seat belts. I'm trying to restore 240Z HLS30 28736 to as original as possible. Aside from some after-market stuff I have one complete Z car female-side buckle - photo attached - but need one more. Can anyone tell me if this is correct for my car. I posed a want ad and one fellow offered my a set which I believe is later series, having plastic reinforcement of one side. Many thanks, Richard McDonel

My dashboard in my 75 280Z needs some love, what is the best plastic restorer that you have used ? I'm always a little intimated by working with very old plastics.

How do I go about the changing of the interior light and the map light, I'm afraid of breaking the lenses of both, and that isn't something I want to do ? Thank you,

I replaced the shifter boot and then the E-Brake boots and I bought them from Redlinegoods.com and I had a color problem but thats fixed and I thought I'd post the finished pictures. The shifter boot is made out or leather and the original is made out of vinyl, so if and when you think you'd like to do this, there are 8 little clips that hold the shifter boot on the underside of the console, you'll need to take them to a vise and open them up using a screwdriver, or some other leverage type tool ( The new leather is thicker than the Vinyl ) and I didn't want to remove the console, so once it's loose, I put a cardboard box under the back of the console and it will hold it …

I have a 1971 Z, serial # 28726. I restored it from bare stripped body to the point where it is now a very nice driver. I'd like it to be as close to original as possible, but given that three cars - '70, a '71 and a '73 - contributed parts, there is some confusion as to what is correct for this body. For instance, I have the centre console that includes an ashtray and a cigarette lighter, but my dash also has a hole meant for a lighter located under the four-way flasher switch. Which is the correct place for the lighter? Second question, the interior door pull handles - should my '71 have both, none, or just one on the passenger side? The floor under the…

Here's a potentially dumb question. Is it possible to swap in the open-door 280zx doorbell buzzer into a 280z?

Passing on my experience. The clock was repaired in 1983 but always ran way fast after. Decided to adjust a month ago, but evidentially I broke it. :-( Did some searching and found this place that specilizes in upgrades of old auto clocks. Instrument Services, Inc 117 Main Street Roscoe, Il 61073 email instrumentservices@frontier.com www.ClocksandGauges.com Cost was $150 plus shipping there of $13 and from there $15. Total of $178 They replace the inner workings with a quartz movement. They also restore the face, hands, and polish the lense face.Takes about two weeks. They call you when they are ready to work on your clock for your credit card , which is charged when they…

In the process of redoing the seats, and ordered the foam and seat covers from Interior Innovations (I think they come out of Pakistan). Pictured is my passenger bottom with the new vinyl cover from Interior Innovations, along with my original back. Color is a dull matte color, but the original is more glossy, has two different textured materials. Kind of a shame to redo the top since it looks pretty decent, but have no choice. Kind of bummed how this is turning out. I asked a couple months ago here about which kit others are using, but not much response. I like the material used on this threads seat, except they're missing the vents. Did I buy the wrong kit…

Hey, I just picked up a 1973 240z and as a 6'3 person with long legs I was hoping there was a way to get the seat slid back a bit further. It looks like there are two things in the way though: With the seat slid as far back as it can the back is up against the lower seat belt retractor. The other is looking at the seat rails there are two additional notches the seat could lock into further back but it looks like it's hitting a stop in the rail. I've attached a picture the setup with the seat adjusted as far back as I can get it. There appears to be another 2-3 inches of legroom I could get which would be perfect if I could relocate the seat belt retractor …
