Hello, Looking at my early 71 1/2 ash tray lid...appears I'm missing the tiny screws that make up the lid hinge....Ideas for sources for this one or anyone have a busted up ashtray that has screws embedded. Other suggestions? david

I have a 73 240z and was wondering if any one knew if the car came originaly with the diamond shaped vinyl around the transmission tunnel, or was it carpet like mine? I've seen the diamond shaped ones around the tunnel and think it looks better but would like to know whats factory. Thanks again

Ok, not a true gut because i still drive this beast every day but I'll keep the dash (with major components within it intact) and both factory seats. Ive already dropped the front bumper and entire A/C components, so I was jus wondering (if anyone has ever weighed this stuff) how much more is dropped from removing all the plastic interior panels and carpet, jute, etc.? this is for a '81 280zx by the way.....a model that needs a diet more than most...

I've decided to quit trying to make my 280zx look pretty on the inside and just gut it except the seats and dash. Upon carpet removal I've noticed that the jute (as stated by most of you who have done this before) acts like a sponge and basically will rot your floorboards from the inside out. Sure enough, mine had very damp jute and rust to boot. My question is how to remove all of the tiny pieces of jute and carpet that seem to be attached to the metal by forces stronger than I. Also, the door panel plastic was held on by some kind of white and yellow sealant that is also as stubborn as cold carbs. Any cheap alternatives to just scrapping it off with a putty knife? …

I need to fill some holes in my centre console and was wondering what the best method is to replicate the original grain pattern ? It says in 'How to Restore Your Datsun Z-Car' that 'Cal Custom's Wrinkle Black' paint applied correctly gives a close approximation. Has any one tried this ? Also thought about taking an impression from a good area and imprinting it into the semi-dry filler ? Advice please. Thanks:ermm:

I have my 240Z dash out of the car and I just noticed that I have a 1/8th of an inch crack starting to form at the rear part of the dash behind the three gauge cluster. Is there anything I can do now to stop the crack? I thought I heard somewhere that Ztherapy had a solution. Thanks. Koreavet

I tore out my headliner and pillar vinyl to redo my interior and now I'm not sure how to proceed to reinstall the pillar and front windshield vinyl. I remember tearing out some welting along the inside flange of the pillar but I don't know how to get it back in there. Also, how the does the vinyl above the windshield meet the side vinyl (is it folded over?). I know I should have taken pictures, but now I'm so close to reinstalling the windshield I need to get this overwith. Thanks.

Is the vinyl on the 70/71 different than the cross hatched pattern on the 72 and later? I received a bag of black interior parts and the trans tunnel vinyl has a much smaller pattern.

I found this post over at HybridZ.org and figured I would post it here as well. Its a list of seats that fit the Miata, as we all know the Miata seats fit well into the Z's so this should be a good list of seats for the Z crowd. The list comes with prices web sites and weights. Pretty good little chart. Take a look Miata Seat List

White interiors? 1 2

I owned a few nice 240's back in the 80's and have almost rebought a few times. Of course rust is my biggest concern. I almost bought a clean yellow 240 that even had a non-cracked dash but I hated the original color (now I reget that I didnt get that one). Now I'm looking at an originally orange car with a white interior. It's an automatic but otherwise would make a good restorer. I just dont know about the white interior. Do most Z fanatics like the white? do they use black carpet? This car is missing some of the rear plastic, will I be able to find good white replacements?

After looking for almost a Year I purchased my first Z. I am 6'6" and needed one in good condition and with automatic as there is no room for me to lift my left leg up to a clucth!! Youch! However as I looked at about 7 Z's all but one had the same problem, the headliner was falling off the inside top! the car i got has only 90,000 miles and was garaged for most of its life and... yup! the headliner rests on my head.... What can I do to get this back up? Its in great conditon just dosnt belong on top of my head! I assume it has to be glued but It looks like the cloth has actually detached from some sort of backing, but cant tell without removing it all. Need some more …
