Hello, I am in the process of putting my 280z back together after a ground up build. I want to tint the windows. Right now all the glass is out of the car. My thought was that I should get the quarter windows and hatch glass tinted before install since they sit in a rubber gasket and it would look better if the tint went all the way to the edge, under the gasket. I do worry, however, that putting the gaskets on and installing the glass after tinting may risk damaging the tint. Similar concern with the door glass, I would worry that if I had it tinted beforehand it would get scratched during install. Much more worry than the quarter or hatch glass. …

Were these clear zinc plated originally, or chrome plated?

I am in need of a new rear view mirror. Unfortunately it looks like the reasonably priced production is NLA. In my research I've found people mentioned 280zx, 80s Sentra, maybe z31/z32 are a direct swap. I also saw a thread about modifying early 2000 Hyundai accent mirror. Just wondering what other options there are. Thanks

In my latest attempt at logging tens of hours into refusing to spend $30 and up for parts that should cost <$10, I'm focusing on recreating the chromed plastic cover over the top bolt holding the arm rest onto the door of my 260Z. The part was reportedly never offered on its own and is NLA except as a reproduction. One of mine broke in half and the other is almost at that point. https://www.thezstore.com/product/1517/door-armrest-chrome-finisher-74-78-260z-280z I'm playing around with creating a high quality 3D scan, printing the part with a 3D printer, and coating it with chrome. So far I've attempted with a scan using my Android phone, then a $1K+ st…

Has anyone replaced their original window cranks with more modern billet versions? What is the spline size for 280z? Was hoping to not have to spend a fortune.

Silly question but as I put everything back together I can't seem to find the right screws for the bracket that holds the pull knob for the under dash fresh air vent. I went through two boxes of old junk screws to even see if i can find a match but no luck. Anyone know what they are? They seem to be self threaded like some kind of sheet metal screw but nothing i have wants to bite and stay tight without tearing the threads. or is it some odd machine thread? i don't seem to feel a nut behind it or see any type of machine threads like most of the bolted connections.

I've been searching for pictures but can't seem to find the right one. I'm starting to get the console and the heater control panel put back in and the previous owner had a hell of a mess of all the wires back there. So my question is do I route the pigtails for the fuse box cigarette lighter and defroster under the bracket for the radio or do I route it over the bracket for the radio. I've seen lots of pictures of the wiring harness Vinyl cover and all the wires hanging underneath the glove box side of the console but it's hard to tell how much of it is actually tucked in behind the heater control panel. I'm thinking it goes outside the radio bracket so that when I slid…

I'm at that point that i needed to put back the insulation after restoring floorboards and sound deadening. I had done my research on here and found excellent material with large printer format templates for the cutouts but I didn't have a printer to do it on. So I did it the old fashioned way with cutout by cutout tailor like approach. i made measurements along the way if its helpful for anyone without the ability to use autocad or a large printer. I decided to start with the dynaliner material i had seen on here a few years ago when I was ripping the old matted disgusting wool pad out. This stuff seemed easy with stick on backing and a great smooth surface for …

Things are coming together quicker than expected and I got to the headliner today. I had purchased one from the z store almost two years ago but was severely delayed with the project. It came with the typical spray on glue but before IO went to tackle this i had a moment of hesitation. I still have the dash in the car and the thought of over spray and drippings of that glue (its 104 today in Roseville) really had me pause. I was thinking about the recent dynaliner experience with the peel off backing and thought why not do the same for the headliner. So I went to the home depot near me and after looking around decided on this since it was the stickiest, had a high te…

Well here we are again. I put some lovely new seats in my 510, and a new console (whole ‘nother thread) and now find it hard to get my hand or finger down between the console and the belt buckle to push the big red button to release the belt. The ol’ thumb will fit kinda backwards and push it, but not without a scrap or rub. So what to do about it? First thought was to add a small extension to the end of the belt where it bolts to the floor to lengthen the mount and get the end up higher. But then, one day while perusing Amazon, there magically did appear, the solution to my problem. No I did NOT discuss out loud giving Google a chance to help me. …

Has anyone tried doing a fiberglass repair on this portion of the center console? mine is in decent shape except the rear inner section of the arm rest. Any ideas? previous threads or videos would be great.
