Here are some pictures showing my steering wheel makeover for my '72. I wanted something a little different but still keeping some tie in to the original rather than go aftermarket. The first picture shows what it looked like when I bought the car. Covered in some weird wrap and lots of rust. I wanted the redone wheel to be thicker so I wrapped two layers of felt around the original wheel to make it about 1/4" bigger in diameter. Finally, I wanted it wrapped in leather. I considered Wheelskins, but I wanted the outer part of the spoke to be covered as well. It…

My question is can you swap a 280zx clock (or any of the trio gauges) into a 280z? I have done a bit of searching and can't find a write up where someone has put the ZX gauges into the s30. Do they use the same connectors?

I'm finally getting to put my Z back together after a few years(260 stockish) The seats were recovered 3 years ago and I am just getting back to reassembling them. I noticed that the seat backs have flush bolt holes on one side and protruding bolt holes on the other, other than that they appear symmetric. My thought is that the protruding holes go on the mechanism side and the flush holes go on the spring side. Can anybody confirm or deny they proper seat assembly?

Retractable Seat Belt Restoration for my 1972. I recently sent a set of seat belts to be restored to, due to recommendation on this site, I sent them to Ssnake Oyl products in Texas. We are at the point where they have disassembled my belts and given me an estimate. Ssnake Oyl in the estimate listed repair of a tear in one of the rubber covers on the male end of the seat belt. I am sure that the tear was not there when the parts were shipped but that is another story. I have since found another cover and will be sending it to them. Regardless the estimate was in the neighborhood of $780.00. Including new labels made at the price of $30.00 each. My first thought was that …

Dash recover . I’ve been thinking about doing this for a couple of years. I put it off until I had my Speedhut gauges. Well I no longer had any excuses. This is not a cheap way to fix your dash but a lot cheaper than sending it out for recovering. It is destructive to the original dash so if you plan on having it recovered in the future this is not an appropriate mod. The basic premise is this. Bond the cap to the existing dash. Fill any gaps between the cap and dash with expanding foam. Fill and blend all the seams and gaps. Paint entire dash. I had done the “fill the cracks and texture paint” kludge to my dash …

I have an 8/71 Z. Looking to replace the inner shift boot (mine is missing completely). Learned there is a difference but from the pics I can't really tell what the difference is? That aside, I have a later 83 ZX 5 speed in my car. Do I even need the correct 71 boot? Plus I think my car was originally auto too.

Hello everyone, Would it be possible for someone to measure their dash vin tag if their windshield or dash is out. Looking for total length, total width of the plate, length from rivet hole to rivet hole, how thick the metal is and the length and width of the HLS30- writing and the stamping. Unfortunately I do not have mine and require measurements to have it made. thank you for your help!

Finally got around to fixing my hitachi radio from a later s30. Hope to track down a radio manual on it. Notice It doesn't have an antenna switch. It has 2 seperate wires coming out of the back they're probably for an automatic power antenna. The PS button on the front im thinking is station presets?. Sound quality is WAY better than any other hitachi factory radio i've ever had. Very cool to see this rare stuff we never got here in the states.

Greetings, Someone asked me to post some pictures of the Miata seats I recently wacked into my '71, so here goes.... They're very similar in shape to the OEM seats, comfortable, have speakers in the headrests, and are *way* less likely to fry your thighs after a day parked in the Australian sun. I used the Miata rails, drilling a hole in the front section to match up with the front mount on the floor pan. Then simply drilled 4 holes in the mounts (2 to match the new holes in the rails, 2 to match the existing rear holes), wriggled things about, and bolted them in. I've still got some overhang (the Miata rails are longer than is required) and will cut it off in due cou…

I have been wanting to redo my OEM seats for while. IF you saw mine you would think they look perfect. They are not faded or torn or even the slightest bit worn. However, I have always thought the foam had given up the ghost. Come to find out the PO had the OEM seats recovered, but did not do new foam. So what is a guy to do? Well I was dead set on getting the Kameari seats for the car. They are just absolutely stunning. But something tells me that they may be a bit too narrow. Plus they are 1700 dollars plus brackets, plus 575 dollars shipping. That is a hell of a pill to swallow. I probably could have saved for it, but the thought that they would be narr…

Hi guys, I am after some info on where I can buy some speaker enclosures that sit above the rear strut towers on an s30. Has anyone used them, and if so what did you think of them? Cheers Rob

I bought my Z in October and have been wrenching on it since. From the start, both doors didnt latch properly which I suspect the previous owner is to blame. Rotating the cylinder locks it into place when you spin it by hand but when you close the door, it doesnt latch secure. Ive adjusted the striking latch on the body and lubricated all moving parts but had no luck. Could the door alignment be partially to blame? After comparing some photos of door / trim spacing, my door gap seems too large. Also the lock mechanism doesnt engage either (tested with door shut). Also the driver side window doesnt stay in the track. The front half of the window (closest to front) di…
