Well I was driving around the other night, and low and behold, my ash tray door, just plain cracked in half. I should have never touched it. I do not and have never smoked, but I leave a spare fuse in there. NO idea why I wanted to 'look' at said fuse. But anyway, does anybody have a spare door that covers the ashtray? My cursory search has revealed that this may be a hard part to find....

Hi everyone: I used carpartsmanual.com to locate the part number/name for this plastic piece that the armrest chrome finisher attaches to and it doesn't list it. Does anyone know if this is possibly used on another Nissan model? What it is the name of the piece so I can try to locate it maybe on ebay? Thank you.

I need to replace all the red vinyl headliner, transmission tunnel and rest of the interior inside my 1972 240z once the painting is finished. The shop already replaced both floors, cleaned all the metal under and over, sprayed a layer of POR-15, Lizard Skin on top and car paint. Its now ready for the interior. Will this kit suffice: http://www.zcarsource.com/interior-vinyl-trim-kit-deluxe-240z-70-73-red-new_8_77916_197191.html Or should i buy some additional parts. I am still thinking on using the old jute material or not.

The topic of refurbishing the chrome lettering on the Z's dash features came up again today. I'd read several past posts by members, including those the recommended the use of the silver Sharpie pen. I tried this on the 'Datsun 240Z' logo plate for my glovebox door. While the results looked ok, it proved not to be very durable. As a matter of fact, the ink came off on the kleenex tissue that I'd wrapped the piece with for protection during storage. Maybe some clear acrylic would have helped. Just the same, I now had to start over. This time, I decided to try something different. I'd read about the chrome foil that scale modelers use for simulating chrome trim on p…

Finally got my hands on a signal seeker hitachi from a fairlady but when i powered it up, all i got was static. Pulled off the cover and discovered 3 diodes were toast. Toast as in crumbled into dust. I was unable to read the values and cannot find a schematic. I know it's a shot in the dark, but does anyone have one of these that can tell me what color bands are on the diodes? These are really hard to get, and with my luck, i probably have the only one in north america

I had a set of white face overlays from the z connexion for awhile, but was deterred based on the difficulty of the task. Well I went ahead and went for it, and got it all done in a few hours without any major troubles. Sorry the picture quality sucks. I will do better for an installed picture... I am waiting on new bulbs to arrive before installing them, and making sure they work. More on that later.... For anyone contemplating this job, or removing gauges, etc.. Here is what I did and found: (I've never done this type of work before in the dash FYI) I have a dash cap/cover. I had to remove it it to get the speedo and tach out. They come…

After not having an operable horn for a few years, I decided to try to figure it out. It's such a simple thing, I'd feel guilty if I couldn't get it working. Plus, you never know when using it could save the car or someone else from injury! My car is an (early) 1976 280z, so others may be different. Basically, what has to be done is: Bend the horn contact tab out further, so it always is touching the metal plate on the back of the Grant adapter. It will not contact it if you don't bend it or modify it in some way, there is a gap. The single wire that comes from the Grant adapter will need to be routed through the proper holes in the adapter…

I'm restoring an early 71 240Z and have (I think) the correct console, choke plate and change tray. The problem is that it has several screw holes and one 2" slot. Anyone got advice on how to patch/fill these and look good? I'm replacing the rest of the interior plastic and it has a brand new dash so I want it to look good and match.

The wooden-rimmed steering wheels have rivets around the ring, but not all have the rivets flush with the surface of the wood. It looks nicer with the holes filled with the rivet, but what if it's not filled (with a brass rivet?) I suppose you can fill the depression with epoxy and then sand & paint it to look like brass, but what else is there that looks right? There is a brass epoxy called Devcon brass epoxy, but it is very expensive. You can also get brass-coloured modeling clay, but will it hold its shape when dry & not crack? Can you get small bits of brass like a rivet head to glue in the hole, if you drill out to the right size?

The 72 Z that I have just started tearing down has been in storage for about 20 yrs I think, you can smell the the mouse pee from a several feet away even though the doors have been off for months now. I removed the dash yesterday and found one of the many generations of Z enthusiasts that have inhabited the car in that time, say hello With the nest removed here's what their pee did,

Finally made some time over the last 2 weeks, and took advantage of the last of the near 80 degree weather to get going on the interior refresh of my 77 280z. Took out the seats, carpet & under padding, revealing the floors have still survived in very nice shape - only a little surface rust in a few of the low areas. Wire brushed the surface rust, cleaned the entire floor with marine clean, and applied POR to the needed areas. Decided that while I was replacing the carpet, to install Fatmat sound deadening. The weather cooperated to get this installed until last Thursday which is when I completed it. The warmer it is outside, the better it likes it. Also inve…

My headliner is sagging and a bit grimy. I already have a bunch of interior panels out of the car, so now is a good time to deal with it. I'm thinking of replacing it with cloth instead of vinyl -- some additional texture might look nice in there -- but haven't found any examples. Anyone done it? How do you like it?
