Hey so the threading on my shift knob was kaputt when I got the car and the PO had driven a screw threw the side to hold it on the shift rod. (don't know the proper terminology) Anyhow does anyone know what size threading the shift rod uses at top where the shift knob screws on (for a 77 280Z)? The knob itself is fine so I'm thinking I'll just screw an insert into the old hole with the correct thread and it'll be better then new. Thanks!

I am installing a full dash cover on a 240 Z and was wondering if anyone has some pointers. For example, the cover gets in the way of the glove box opening and closing. What to do? Greg Ira

I finally got my dashboard installed in my car! It took me quite a bit of work and almost killed me but I got it in. I had the dash rebuilt by dashboard restorations in Washington and have been pleased by their work. They also did the center console that looks nice too! Carl

Before my Z goes to the bodyshop, I decided to pull the dash and fix some wiring issues. Then I thought, why not try to repair the three LARGE cracks in the dash. What have I got to lose. I started by using a razor to cut into and taper the cracks. After doing this the cracks were at least 3/4" wide and completely open. Then I filled them with primerless windshield urethane after backing them up with duck tape. 24hrs later I used SEM 68422 flexible bumper repair to finish filling then sanding then filling and sanding until I was happy with the surface. Next step was SEM 38464 vinyl/ plastic prep to clean the entire dash surface. Then I used SEM 39853 texture coating to co…

Just a reminder that this area is not sealed well. I used open cell foam that crushes but sealant/caulking/silicone or closed cell foam or rubber matting may do better.

Did a search and found some have used the SEM white. I'm about to redo my nieghbor's "Butterscoth" color interior, and need to dye / paint new interior panels and refresh the color of the tranny soft vinyl. Neither SEM or Colorbond make a color that is close. I plan to contact Colorbond & SEM about the cost for a custom color match. However, I found this manufacturer that will match colors. http://www.parasolinc.com/Products.asp?ProductID=VARIKOTE Price isn't bad at $99/quart. That would easily do all the interior panels and have a pint to spare for matching dis-colored soft vinyl and have left over for touch-ups. They also will do custom aerosol cans. Anyon…

So I removed the dashboard and sadly the "tube" connecting to the driver side vent tore. It is made of what seems like woven something wrapped around a wire frame and whatever composes the tube is now hard, don't know if it always was or not? Anyhow a whole section torn apart the wire frame is still holding it. It seems like it COULD be fixed? Any ideas about what to use to fix this? I was thinking of simply using duct-tape or something similar, my fear with duct tape is one it might smell, especially with air rushing past it in that vent and also when I use the heater it may smell worse and even melt the adhesive on it. I was thinking using some type of air-tight woven h…

Bagged it air tight. The jan 71 240z has the hatch vents so I decided to refresh them and make it air tight. I used vapor barrier and tyvek tape. It finished nicely right up to the hatch seals. I'll post tons of tech tips and photos over the next two weeks.
