So, my "new" 73 has a new master cylinder and the other day I found it a bit hard to stop. Peddle is rock hard. Pulled the vacuum line imagine bay side.n it let out a Lil wet vacuum noise. Cabin side I can hear a squishing release sound. The kicker is, i'm not losing fluid into master. In fact it's,very full. Any ideas?

what would cause similar symptoms in the brakes to a reaction disk missing? I just replaced the booster and master cylinder and bled the brakes but the pedal travels almost freely most of the way down and then as soon as it hits some (3/4 way down) it goes from next to no braking to full braking with a rear wheel locked up in almost no travel. I pulled the master cylinder and popped the clip out of the front of the booster and the reaction disk was where it was supposed to be. It wasn't glued onto the shaft but it was at the end of it. Where should I look first? Thanks, Trevor http://240z.me

I picked up a '77 280z this weekend and the seller gave me these wheels. On the front they say CSS in between 2 of the spokes. They are true 2 piece wheels as the center will unbolt from the rim. On the back they say they are 14x6.5" Max Load 1580lbs and have a part number 026832 stamped in 2 places. In addition 4.50 is stamped where the hub meets the wheel, I am assuming this is the back spacing. After some research I found the link below and confirmed they weigh around 18 pounds each. Has anyone seen these before? Are they rare? Any idea what they are worth? I am considering taking them apart, cleaning, painting, and polishing them. However if they will only yi…

I'm currently running Wilwood brakes in the front and stock drums in the back of my 240Z track car. I know I need to move to a set of rear disks at some point but time and money are delaying this upgrade at the moment. I'm looking for a little more brake balance front to back than my current system has with part store shoes in the back. I did some poking around on HybridZ and on this forum and it seems that some folks are recommending Porterfield S4 shoes for the track. Anyone have any experience with this setup or other recommendations?

Hey whats up /z/? I just recently bought my Dad's old 240z off of him and so far loving it.. Don't really know much about cars so heres my problem.. Everytime I press on the brakes its makes a REALLY loud screeching sound. My brakes are not dying because my dad recently got new brakes about a couple months ago. Maybe they installed them incorrectly? How do I stop this horrible noise which causes embarassment?

The first time I press on the brake pedal it goes down a fair ways and then the brakes grab some. If I let off and then press it again they go down just a bit and feel very solid. It never takes more than pressing it a second time to get it to work perfectly. They aren't awful with the first press but are much better with the second. I read through the threads on here about the reaction disk in the booster and did the test where I remove the MC and pull the rod out and snap it back in and listing for a clink, meaning the disk is missing, but mine was a nice soft thud back into place. I've bled the brakes several times with no real change. bad master cylinder? Other i…

Hi Anyone know where to buy Brake Master Cylinder caps with the warning switches built in. Needed for 78 UK 260Z but I think they will be the same as US 280Z. Any thoughts? Steve

Hi everyone, So I've done the usual runs of searching and tuned my question to what I haven't managed to find yet. I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Konig rewinds since the offset and weight (and aesthetics) fit the car well, and for a street car the cost of Panasports or Minilites just doesn't seem feasible. So... The car will be a street/autocross car with the occasional trackday thrown in, and will use only bolt-on suspension improvements. For the performance gurus, is there a notable difference in handling between a 225 and a 205 tire? Based on what I've read, it looks like a 225 tire on a 16" wheel is pushing the limits of fender clearance without fender li…

I am looking to get Rota Rb 15 x 7 FOR my 68-2000, can someone tell me the measurement of the center cap. Height and how big the opening is in the wheel where the cap seat into. I know the cap will not fit on the front hub as the hub is longer than the cap, I want to find and placement cap.

Hi All, I want to install the Toyota 4 piston front calipers on my 1973. Several in my club have done this but have had mixed results with clearance using 14" wheels. A kit vendor has told me that it's possible to grind the calipers or use a spacer but advised me to upgrade to larger wheels. Wouldn't a spacer require longer studs? I really want to keep these wheels because they are unique and look great but don't want to spend a few hundred on parts that can't be returned. Advice really appreciated. Peter

Ok i checked all the post i could on this before i started. and did just as they said. first the grease seal was hard to get all the way in. when i put the hub on i tightened the nut down a little to help seat the grease seal then backed it off a little. took the hub back off looks good now put it back on but it is not smooth if i snug it down and if i back it off there is some play. it is not right. do i need to get it real tight to seat the bearing then back it off? i don't want to over tighten it.

Hi, Is anyone a 240 SX rear brake caliper expert? Here's the deal. I am building a new race car and I am using this caliper. I am not using a handbrake and got rid of all the related parts. Aftern a couple hours trying to find out where this system was leaking I had the entire assembly submerged in water and was shooting air through it. Lo and behold, there is a factory pinhole in the grove of the piston!! Yes, the only thing to cover this hole from all the pressurized fluid is the flimsy dust boot that rides in that groove. Is anyone familiar with this and is this right? Thank you, Greg
