Guys, dumb question ... do i also need to unplug the harness around the steering column for the dash to slide out? After removing the two steering column bolts the column has hardly moved. Is this because of the harness around it holding it in place? also, are there any bolt near the driver and passenger kick panels apart from the two facing upwards? I am done with: - remove center console - remove windshield finisher 4x screws - remove front instrument panel (also removed 2 screws holding the bracket for two center air ducts) - removed 6x dash bolts near firewall - removed 4x bolts near trans tunnel (2x each sides) - removed 2x bolts facing …

Hey guys, so my dash is all ready (pending clock restoration). Windshield weather strip and this water **** are the only two jobs i need to get done before putting the dash in. What is a good sequence to take this one out as it leaks when i put the car in heater mode. Hopefully there is still vacuum (in think there is as i can move between hot and cold). During hot it leaks very small drops, good enough to rust my floor. Problem is my new carpet is also installed. I am thinking remove the pipe from the engine and let the coolant drain as much or should i drain from under the radiator? Once that is done, put a ton of towels under this thing and carefull…

I am getting ready to start using the Copy-Cad system from Caswell. I have been on the Caswell plating forum for help getting the process lined out but their forum seems to be rarely used and many threads have no responses. I have also read through all the threads I found on the forum, I thought this thread could sort of be used to combine the working knowledge of the experienced platers (ajmcforester, motorman7, nix240z and any others) on here and I would add in where I could and my experiences as I go along. I spent a day with Steve (nix240z) with him showing me his process a couple of years ago and I am finally getting around to doing this. I have acquired the power su…

Anyone have any idea how many different suppliers made 240Z mechanical fuel pumps? I ask as I have been preparing to rebuild or possibly replace my original pump, and I'm finding that there appear to have been several OE manufacturers. These days, the new OE-style pumps seem to be made by 'Kyosan Denki'. But my original says 'Nikki', while a spare top cover I received says 'Ampco'. Any others I've missed?

Hi Guys, is the $60 weatherstrip for windshield at ZCD a good fit? they also have a $400 OEM version. Whats the difference and is it worth it? later is backorder. What about installation experience? anyone? can it be done with the dash still ON? my last item on the list is windshield moulding. It is holding but center trip as come off as it is brittle. How hard it is to take the original one out. Remove the left and right trim from the pillars and push the rubber out? There is a good installation video here though:

Does anyone know what this is? It looks like a thermal switch (due to the potting) but I'm just guessing and couldn't find it on a schematic. Switch was located just below the emergency flasher relay on the RH side of the passenger kick-panel of my '71. Ran across it while troubleshooting my rear window defroster. Thanks!

Hi everyone. I had some expected issues with the rear hatch vents coming loose on my 10/70 240z, so I was looking into replacing them. I've been researching which components would be stock, and could use some pointers as I can't find much in FSM and other documentation. Am I correct in that I will need all of the below? As far as I can tell, there are four pieces (a few associated questions below): The deck lid grille (hatch vents) themselves. I have these. Question: These are now plastic, but were these ever metal on the original cars? The cylindrical receiving clips for the deck lid grille. I have these. These a…

Hello all, I am going to document my build. Basically I have a garage kept series 1 240z. That hasn't driven since 1986, it needed brakes which she couldn't afford so it has sat since. It was resprayed in the 80s as well. Some bad overspray but overall it's a very rust free car. I actually found it in my neighbors garage. My goal is to drive it and enjoy it, but it needs some TLC. First and foremost I got it running, and that is when I made the decision to keep it and I have fallen in love. I will keep it mostly original, minus some brakes upgrades, wheels and BC coilovers. Maybe someday have a built motor for it, but not for now. Every…

I am wondering who everyone is using around the country and how do you feel about the results? It would be nice to find a plater that could handle the Datsun hardware and make it look good but wasn't irritated at helping the hobbyist out. Distance is really irrelevant because the difference in postage is insignificant to getting good plating. I have been trying out a plater in Phoenix who will for the immediate future remain nameless. I have been less than impressed!!! I sent a package out weeks ago. Got strung along with they're almost done, almost done for the last couple of weeks. They called and took payment last week and I received a box today. The par…

So many Z's, of all numerologies, have popped up that I thought it might be good to collect them here. Feel free to add old or new stuff.
