While digging through my pile of parts, I found that I did not have a good outside mirror. So I decided to try and see if I could bring one of the damaged mirrors back to life. I picked one that had a major crease on the backside and a couple of small dents. Using a hammer and a blunt chisel I was able to open up the outer fold that holds the mirror in place enough to get the mirror apart. After some hammer and dolly work, a file to knock down the high spots it started to look OK. Some sanding, a bunch of power buffing and polishing and it looks good. Slowly folding the lip back over the mirror with a body hammer and it is ready to use.

Beginning buildup of my '72 240Z and a F54 / P90a with triple carbs...looking at notches for injectors and choices for manifold gaskets. I've seen lots of gaskets that follow the outline of the notches and another one that covers the notch. Seems to me that for better airflow I should block the notch with the full circle style gasket. Recommendations? Also wondering if some have welded the notches up and grind as necessary.

Has anyone checked their antifreeze cold weather protection level lately? When I lived in Northern Wisconsin, it was an annual fall ritual. Seeing -70º wind chill temperatures in the midwest this morning reminded me of the "good old days" of getting up in the middle of the night to start the car and let it run for a while to assure it would start in the morning. Stay warm! Dennis

Hello! I just joined the forum, as I'm looking to get a First Gen Z-car. I'm relatively new to this car, and would like to learn as much as I can so I know what I'm doing once I buy one. I have a few question: First, what (in your opinion) is the best year to get? To me, older is better, so I'd rather have a 240z than a 280z, but I know they are getting hard to find... Also, I don't like emission regulations (it's just another part that will fail). Second, how reliable are they? I know rust is a big problem. But do the L24, L26 or L28 have any major problems? What about the transmission? I want a manual, hopefully a 5-speed, though I'm not sure they were offered…

We need a PAY IT FORWARD thread. With tough economic times and the Holidays fast approaching, a lot of people could use a break or a hand out. How does it work? Really simple...Clean out your garage with a part that you thought about selling, but considering its relative worth it's just better to simply offer a "freebie" to someone that could really use the component. The basic rules are as follows: 1. You're offering the item for free. 2. Recipient should be willing to pay for shipping, but the offering party can volunteer to cover that if they choose. 3. Recipient pledges to "Pay it forward" at some point in the future with another item for another Classic Z-Car e…

Hey y'all! I'm Kyle out of Austin, TX and I'm just starting a ground-up restoration of my 1976 280z - a few months into the teardown so far. I end up traveling for work a lot which limits my time in the garage significantly, so progress is slow so far, but I will try and update this thread as progress happens. I'm the lucky 2nd owner of this beauty and had the opportunity to attend ZCON in Austin last year before starting the tear down. I'd highly recommend ZCON for anyone who hasn't gone yet. I'll start with a few pictures of the "before" state and add pictures/video as I have the time to edit and upload. I'm a complete novice but have learned a lot already t…

I see racing fever or Z fever as specializing in Z's. the reviews seem to be mostly about later model Z cars. I am considering getting a valve job and looking for a place that has worked on L28's. any one here have experience with them for that kind of work? I would most likely pull the head and take it to them.

My tachometer recently decided to stop working correctly. It all started after a long day of driving... got home shut the car down and restart was difficult, once started, car died. I put it away to diagnose later. Subsequently, I pulled the distributor, changed the condenser and coil. Upon restart, I notice the tachometer was reading about 300 rpm when actual was about 900 rpm. Revving the engine and the tach will only display a maximum of about 1000 rpms. I cannot find any obvious fault. Anyone have any ideas on how to troubleshoot, or is it more than likely that my tachometer finally died? Can the tachometer be repaired readily?
