I am fortunate enough to have been gifted a Series 1 (1971 I think ) 240z. Without boring you with a novel, this car belongs to my Great Aunt who has been holding onto it since my Great Uncle died in the 1990s. He was the original owner, but towards the end of his life he was unable to enjoy the car so it sat for some time until he passed. Since then it has been sitting dormant in a barn on their property- probably for at least the past 25 years or so. She has wanted the car to go to a family member and informed me of its existence when I casually mentioned to her that I had bought a '76 280z a few months ago to restore. The 280z needs a TON of fab work and, quite fra…

Alright, so here we go! This is a 1973, HLS30-165462. Purchased by my father brand new in 73 in Rhode Island and traveled with him to Colorado, New Mexico, and finally to Minnesota. He kept decent records of maintenance and mileage, so we know the odometer reading of 65,416 is correct. Original color is 901 Silver. There's still some of it under the hood and in the engine bay, but the outside was peeling in the late 80s so he had it removed and primed, but never decided on a new color, so in primer it remained. Back in my high school days we dropped the gas tank, cleaned it, replaced various hoses and managed to get it running. I had a lot of fun crui…

I have been reading these boards for a while now, and noticed several of our members are located in or near Houston Texas. I would like us to get together or at least get a call list so we can ask questions, lend a hand, etc. Can we get a shout out of local classic Z guys.

A couple of you may have seen the thread I started on my 73 rotisserie restoration. So I have had this car for a long time waiting to do the restoration, and my intent years ago was to clone it as a FairladyZ, with you know, the LHD. I'm just now getting started after the deconstruction of the car, so look for updates on that thread. I have in my possession the earmarks to do this. JDM taillights, fender mirrors, original style badges, chrome ringed headlight lenses (real ones). I also have a set of "D" hubcaps, not really sure thats Fairladyish on the hubcaps, but I think they are cool. The kid (relative) I was when I got this car still exists in me, but since …

I'm in the process of cleaning, lubricating and re-building my 240Z wiper mechanism. Noticed when examining everything once it was out of the car that it appeared to have felt washers as part of the pivot mechanisms. Mine were rotted/unusable but I assume I need to find some acceptable replacements as they must serve some purpose. Seems like nylon washers might be a more durable alternative. I believe there are either 3 or 4 used in total. Has anyone replaced these parts with something that works well?

My wonderful friends, I know I've been a stranger these past few years as my partner and I have had way too much of "life getting in the way." My poor 280 has mostly just sat. She still runs great, but there are a number of little things I should have done that I haven't. Well, I have bitter-sweet news. A young man drove down from Northern Virginia today to buy my baby. Now someone will again pay her the attention she deserves. When I bought her, her body was in pretty good shape, and she was mechanically so-so. Now she's in great shape mechanically, but she needs some body work to address a few little rust issues. That will be the new owner's project. (Mayb…

Hi to all! I am trying to find a source that would enable me to make a direct bolt-up of my set of early 260Z bumpers to my 1977 280. I can find lots of conversion kits to mount 240Z bumpers, but didn’t the early 74 260 bumpers sit slightly further from the body than any of the 240’s? If so, wouldn’t the 260 mounting bracket be slightly different (longer?) than any 240? I can only find 70-72/73 240 style to 280 conversions with “some fabrication necessary” forcing the user (me ?) to bend/weld modify and I’d have to have this fabricated =$$ and trusted source...Doesn’t’ anyone make a conversion bracket expressly for an early 260 to a later 280 using stock 260 bumpe…

This is a total newb question and I am anticipating a lot of smart arse remarks honestly. However I am new to the z car itself. I picked my '78 up about 6 months ago and am in the process of deciding what route I want to go with it. I will definitely be keeping ac in it because I live in Texas. My question however what pics and information do any of you have on period race inspired builds on these cars? I want to keep with the l-series motor and I have a cam and dual car setup I am going to run, so I am mostly looking for the interior and body styling.

I thinking of adding a Vintage air kit to my car, would this eliminate the need for the factory heater stuff under the dash ?

Hi Guys,I just joined the forum. I bought a 77 280Z 3-speed auto. The car has been sitting for about 4-5 years. We had to load it on the trailer. It is clean inside and no serious rust issues.I checked the transmission oil and it seems to be in a decent color. Engine oil was dark.I am planning to take the engine and trans pans off and clean them as much as possible before putting the new oil and try to start it up. Brake system also needs clean/flush.There seems to be a thermal/vacuum switch on the top of the engine - just left to the valve cover. It has two ports but one is broke. Anyone know what this switch is for? and replacement part#?Would appreciate some advice befo…
