I'm wondering if anyone successfully re-cut key based on the key code from worn out original key? Someone said Dealer only store 10 years of data in the computer, the others say using VIN number lockthmith can re-cut new key. http://forums.nicoclub.com/key-cutting-by-vin-t301243.html My key is worn out and it easily falls off while running engine. I have spare ignition module, but I want to use the original key for door lock and ignition. There is a code on the key one letter and 4 digit number. I wonder whether I can re-cut based on the code somewhere. By the way, this key in the photo is from junkyard old 260z. You can't steal my car…

I just got a new 1972 240z this past Christmas. I am new to the forum and the car community in general as this is my first car. My dad grubb240z has been on the forum for a while.

I bought a pair of window roller guides from zcardepot last year and finally got around to installing them. These attach to the inside top edge of the door underneath the door trim piece and keep a little pressure on the window glass so it doesn't wobble back/forth as the door is closed with the window down. The previous owner had busted the passenger window by slamming the door with the window down years ago, so I figure this would maybe prevent that from happening again. The problem is they leave a streak on the glass after rolling it up/down. I washed the rubber with soapy water, then even tried some diluted degreaser, but it still leaves streaks after a few times…

I dropped my 240z body shell off for media blasting last Friday, at the time it was a rolling shell. Now it is just a shell on a rotisserie for complete blasting. To bring it home I was thinking of building a simple auto body cart using a pallet and 2x6 under it that the wheels will be attached to. The pallet I have is not wide enough to mount wheels to and then roll up the tire rails of my trailer. The pallet is 42"x42"x5.5". I think this will work, any thoughts? Thank you.

Hi guys/gals, I have had a few people on various posts here and on reddit asking for a full build thread, so I am going to try to make that happen. This will be a documentation of the restoration and modification of my 1972 240Z. This project really started a year ago, so I will give a quick background. After that I will try to post regularly; it may take a week or two to get this thread up to date with the work I have done so far, but it is what it is. Some things will be out of order as I find time. If you want to follow real time then follow me on instagram if you like (d_stratton). Okay - this started in October of 2016 when I got my first 240z. I picked up …

Here are some pictures of the "Rusty Pig". This car came out of Miami and has a salvage title. I was a flood vehicle so I assume it was in the process of being painted then they had a flood. I was hoping they wouldn't spend the time and paint to paint a "Rusty Pig" but I was mistaken I believe it's been lowered. Haven't looked to see how they did it yet.. Rockers look bad and would really need some work This is the part I hate most, the cowl area needs work... Early air cleaner I believe. I believe the engine has been replaced. Also shouldn't it have the early valve cover... Some new door seals in the b…

I bought a series 1 car a couple of months ago. Vin 5305, numbers matching motor, original transmission, hand throttle. I have it scheduled for paint in July. I want it to be as original as possible but the car is white. In high school, my first z was a white '73 with flat top carbs and we didn't get along well. The car will be rotisseried, blasted inside, outside and underneath. I plan to keep the car until I die but I will have before and after photos in case I ever decide to sell. If I change the color to 918 (still a valid color for 6/70), does anyone think it will make the car less desirable? I cant imagine that it would but changing the color of an ear…

Worth a view (and listen), if you've never seen this segment. The Z's straight six, done up like this, sounds like half a Ferrari V12. Great sound. I'm usually not a fan of flared fenders on these cars, because they usually look too 'Hot Wheels'. This is the only Z I've seen with fender flares that add, rather than detract, from the car's looks.

I look at watches and cars as instruments. They respectively tell the time and get us from place to place. Today I was to meet Leon a neighbor of mine with an example of Nissan’s first generation Zcar. The air in my bedroom was still and the sun was just beginning to peak through the curtains as I scanned my dresser for an appropriate watch to wear; an odd yet rewarding ritual I do upon waking up every day. I was meeting someone new and we were to go on an adventure so I strapped the old Japanese dive watch to my wrist. It is Seiko’s first dive watch and the concept was for it to go to the ocean’s darkest depths. While there the wearer could explore knowing how muc…

Friends, For the first time in 5 years I am without my 240Z. It sold last Friday at Mecum's auction in Kissimmee. Watching the bidders viewing the cars earlier in the day, I realized the curse of the automatic transmission remained. As such, the Z brought less than I had hoped for, but more than I feared it would bring. So I guess it was a satisfactory result. Just wanted to take this time to thank all of you who have helped me over these last 5 years. And to anyone my postings may have helped, it was my pleasure. In all this group has been one of the kindest, and considerate group I have had the pleasure to being associated. The hole in my garage means I h…
