Hey folks, I don't know if this is normal behavior, but I recently noticed that my 1972 240Z will show an oil pressure at idle of basically zero. In any gear, as soon as I give it some throttle, the oil pressure rises predictably to a "normal" range. Hold it at 3500-4000RPM for 5-10 seconds, and the oil pressure will rise to 50-70PSI. I did some recent wiring/ignition work, so I'm not sure if this recently manifested itself, or if I somehow didn't notice it for all these years. Is this normal, or concerning in any way? I would expect the oil pressure to drop at idle, but this is literally to zero. Seems strange. (side note: since installing an MSD 6A ignition box, I am ha…

I need the plenum structure under the vent cover that holds the wiper pivots. Anyone make that?

Hey guys, I just finished restoring my 240 and trying to reinstall my seatbelts but I threw my installation guide ages ago and only have the photo below which isn't very clear. Does anyone by any chance have a clearer shot of the guide? I tried getting it off Retro Belt but they weren't responsive. thanks!

I came across an IG post that caught my eye in which a fellow 280Z owner had LED lighting behind the Z emblems rearward of the quarter windows. Turns out a garage in Las Vegas that does a lot of Datsun work (Harmon Restoration) had done the work for him and would sell a kit with an amber LED bulb for each side which included all wiring with proper Datsun plug connectors for a seamless installation onto the rear lights harnesses. Since I love LEDs and this looked like a novel idea I ordered one such kit which I received a couple of weeks later. Their original kit was meant to work as an auxiliary turn signal light but I didn't like that idea, doubting it's legality and use…

I've been lurking here and some of the other Z boards for a while, and after wanting a project car for basically my entire life, I finally pulled the trigger a couple weeks back so I guess it's time to join; hope y'all have room for one more! So here it is, my new 1978 Z, as it looked when I brought it home: I scoured CL for a while and any reasonably-priced cars were getting snatched up in hours. I checked out a handful of cars in my desired price range and they were all projects well outside my budget or capabilities, so when I found this one I jumped on it. It looked pretty good, and I knew it would be some work, but have uncovered some unexpected su…

I thought I would take content from a post in my "build thread" and share it more broadly here. I've been working to prepare almost all of the hardware for my 6/1971 240z for re-plating, and have learned some, improving my process along the way. Here is some example hardware I ran through the process this week: These hose clamps are in pretty average condition after 50 years. Note that the less rusty one has some common damage on the phillips head. It has been mangled a bit. Something I have learned is that you can restore most philips screws with this type of damage by tapping the area with a hammer. I place the bottom end of the screw on the flat …

Let's hear who's IN, who's OUT, who is on the fence. I'm in, but only for the weekend pass. Won't be driving the Z. Looking forward to seeing some west coast members!

For the CSP311 project, I have a reproduction chassis/VIN tag, and I am looking for the number stamps/punch to put the chassis number back on (the same as on a S30). Yes, any stamp may well do, but I am trying to keep the car very much period/correct, so looking for the correct size and font Nissan would have used back in the day. (Plus I am getting very much OCD about the project!) I have had a search here, I can't see anything (though it doesn't mean there isn't) and the 311s.org forum says the Habour Freight stamp is close, but not on the 4, 7 and 3, which doesn't help. Any direction here please. Cheers Ian

Dang it. I posted this first in the 510 Open Discussions. The rumor mill was right. ZCON 2022 will be in September in Birmingham, AL. I hope I'll be paying more attention when I'm prepping my Z than I did in selecting the forum...

While driving my 280zx from a dead stop , I heard a thump, thump (on off) sound from the driver's rear tire area. It sounds like some parts are moving around due to the motion. On the road at speed there is no problem. From a stop sign or at low speeds the sounds happens. Bad shocks?

Some of the coolest looking z's I've ever seen are the old Rally z's, and the coolest among these was the one from Monte Carlo, in my opinion. I've been looking into getting some driving lights if not now, then somewhere down the road. However, there is one big problem - fitment. I've seen two other ways of fitting driving lights: A.) Putting them on the hood of the car like from the Safari Rally. B.) Similar to Monte Carlo by fitting them past the radiator, except mounting them on or behind what is best described as a brush guard. (I've also seen a third way where the lights are fixed on the roof of the car, or else a roof rack.) The…
