My 73 has been sitting in the garage for the last 26 years with fuel in the tank. After reading on this site and others about fuel tank rust problems, I knew I had to know what shape mine was in before trying to get it running. I drained about a gallon of dark brown nasty smelling liquid that had bits of rust flakes in the bottom of the can. The tank came out and a peek inside showed me there was a ball of rust for a sending unit and the bottom was covered in a quarter to half an inch of varnish, laquer, shellac, goo, goop, gunk, or whatever you want to call it. The upper part of the tank is where the flake rust was, where the moisture condensed. The sending unit…

I have currently got a 1976 2+2 260z. I started this project a year ago and since getting it sandblasted have found many surprises. such as It has sustained a hard hit to the left rear quarter which has bent the rear slightly. It has rust under the fuel filler cap, passenger floor (where footrest is), passenger door, along where the tailgate closes, and a few minor areas around the tailgate. The car has the original 5 speed and l26 engine with 240z su's. It still has all the other bit's and pieces like the original mags and centres and a rear spoiler. I hope to have some pictures loaded on and would appreciate your comments on whether to fix this car or wreck or how much …

Have there been any new developments in the media used in fire extinguishers? I recently looked at a number of units, from Kidde to FirstAlert, and anything with a 10 B:C rating had a dry powder media. So if I'm right, dry powder is corrosive and messy, and not very desireable for use on valuable cars. The only thing that would be OK to use on a Z would be the FireAide product, but those only come in little 16 oz. bottlles, and is only rated 1A:10B. If you had your choice (or requirement), what would you carry in the car? thx

Over memorial weekend I'll be drivin my Z around 900 miles from NW MT to the SE tip of Wyoming to where I'm going to college... I'm worried my Z might break down somewhere on the way. It runs very good now, but I have never driven it over a 100 mile trip. I recently got a full coolant flush and will do a oil change before I go. Also a basic tune up of course. On a trip like this, whats the most common thing that goes out? Just about anything engine mechanical or electrical I can fix myself. But what about other areas that might go out? U-joints and wheel bearings all look good. I "have" to be back on tuesday and worried about not makin it if something happens. I can't g…

We have discussed reproducing decals on other threads. I just wanted to post an update on my project. I have been reproducing decals for my own car and wanted to share what has been done with others interested. My only commercial interest is to help reduce my costs with these projects by offering them to other club members interested. Pictures of the three decals that I have done, so far, are posted in my gallery. Let me know what you think of the accuracy, authenticity, or use of these, and any other questions you may have. I am, currently, doing the master vac decal and may need your help and advice in duplicating the correct embossed, or stamped, numbers, but only …

I can not believe what these brackets are going for. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-260Z-280Z-S30-Rear-Disc-Conversion-NR_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33564QQitemZ8066132257QQrdZ1 I've seen entire rear kits, including the brakes and rotors for less than this price, and the seller gets a 100% rating?

I was given a '73 240 that had been sitting in the weeds since '91. And now that I've gotten the transmission out of it I'd like to pass it along to someone who can use other pieces. Unless you're a glutton for punishment I doubt it can be restored but there are a few unrusted body parts and except for the tranny all the mechanicals are there. When I swap the tranny into my daily driver that car's transmission will be available. (It works but has a habit of jumping out of gear 'til it's warmed up) I'm located in Bellingham, WA Look way up and to the left on a map. Dave

Does anyone know when in 1974 (what month) that the bumpers changed from the 240z style to the bigger 280z type? I've always heard of early '74 vs. late '74. Now looking at my 260z, which has the earlier 240z style bumpers and turn signals down below, I see the production date in the door jamb shows 8/74, indicating the final month of 1974 production. Can someone shed some light on this?

Take a look at these mirrors that came off a SI 240z I wrecked years ago. Both were fitted on the doors and have only holes to suit these mirrors, only other time Ive seen a pair was on another red SI 240. They have made in Japan on the base and are made of metal, do you guys think it came original?
