Hi All, New member here. To make a very long story, short...back in the late 80's I bought a '73 240Z from a college kid. I ran it up to about 130mph on a test run and blew the rings. I didn't really care because I was going to do a full mechanical restore anyway. At the time I had a big farm in central MO. I bought a donor 240Z of the same yr. I put the donor engine in the original Z only to discover the block was cracked. At that point I decided to take the car to a local restoration shop. Farm was sold shortly after, fortunes lost and the car remained at the restoration place. I sent them money as I could. Father of the enterprise died, son took it over. In m…

Predictions on closing bid? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1971-datsun-240z-160/ It is interesting to see these cars make their way out into the light after storage for many years. With the high number (relative) of series I cars that were made, I am sure there are more still hunkered down in storage.

It's in all the car mags https://www.motortrend.com/news/nissan-z-proto-first-look-review-400z-preview/ https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a34016940/nissan-z-proto-revealed/ I'd like to see one with the roof the same color as the car. I do like the lines, very smooth / subdued.

I'm looking at some wheels but they require hub-centric rings. I've always been reluctant to use wheels with spacers or rings, so I have no experience with this. Do those of you with experience find wheels that require hub-centric rings to perform well and reliably? Thanks for your thoughts based on experience.

Whether tis nobler in the mind to suffer the slings and arrows of my wife's complaining that we don't have room for another Z (or another project), or take arms against that sea of troubles and let this car pass to someone else. Yes, I am faced with the conundrum of deciding on whether to pick up another Z. Tough call on this one. The car is in many pieces right now, but would not take much to get running. Of course I would tear it all apart anyway and re-build from the ground up. The good: The car is very original with minimum rust (just the right rear dogleg is rusted through). The frame rails and underside are dented but in decent condition. I love th…

I have replaced and checked everything related to fuel except dropping the tank. Replaced and checked all fuel lines, installed fuel filter at tank, blew air through fuel lines (including return), pulled vacuum on the metal fuel lines (held vacuum), drained tank, overhauled SU carbs, and can't keep fuel in the engine fuel filter. I removed the valve cover to check on the fuel pump cam lobe. I'm able to pump fuel by moving the pump lever by hand at the cam. Is it possible that I'm not getting enough lift from the mechanical pump cam lobe? Or is there an issue with Delphi pumps? There is plenty of fuel in the filter I installed at the tank.

Has anyone found that the $80.00 parking brake cables from MSA (Motorsports Auto) are way too long. I couldn't figure out why my handbrake was nowhere near tight, so I took it off the car and measured 76" from end of clevis bracket to end of clevis bracket. I bought it a year ago and am just getting around to installing it...The Life of Riley (me)

I've been lurking in the community learning a lot of stuff over the couple of months, but this is my first post. I live west of Toronto, Ontario. I have an 04/71 240 that I bought back in 1994 (I'd had a couple of 240s and a 280ZX back in the '80s). The car came from Georgia, but I don't know much more history than that. I drove it summer and winter(!) for about five years, then garaged it when it started to get some visible body panel rust in the usual places. I managed to keep the car out of my mind until a few months ago when someone told me what was happening on BaT. I don't have any expectation that my car will ever be worth what some of those have gone for (and I ca…

RE: '77 280Z Situation: A pristine distributor (D6F4-03) and a dead vacuum module (22301-N4200) . Parameter: - It's a street driver; no vacuum advance is not a viable option. After reading every post with "distributor" and "vacuum advance" module in it, I have come to accept that I am in a very deep, dark hole with nary a ladder in sight. Thus, I would pose the following questions to this august body: - Anyone have an appropriate and operational vacuum module for sale? - Anyone know of a module that could be modified to fit the distributor? - Anyone have a phone number for a Breaker that could provide a working module, even if it is…

Got bored today (that's dangerous for my car" so decided to try something. I bought a 16oz of gumout with pea fuel treatment. I have heard good things about PEA as a detergent that really removes carbon. So on my test stand engine I rigged up a bottle with a feed control valve to the brake port in the intake manifold. Started the engine, well is seems my flow control was not really all that great, as I got a HUGE plume of smoke, lots of black gunk from every orifice of my rigged together muffler on the test stand. the engine ran fine, just hoping I did not get the fire dept called on me. anyway it went thru the 16oz in about 1 minute. stopped smoking. I looked w…

Hello Z family, Hope all is well!! I’m new to the forum and look forward to some great input from the SMEs. I’ve own a 260, 280zx and just recently purchased a 1973 240z to restore. I have the opportunity to either keep the original engine/4 spd manual tranny or replace with a 280zx turbo and 5 spd manual tranny? What would be your recommendation? Also, what do you think the estimate cost will be for a the overhaul of the engine. I have someone to do the tranny but may have to reach out to a shop for rebuild. Any Z specialist close to lower Alabama? Thanks!!
