Well I picked up this book called Lust, Then Love: the story of the new Z by Rob Sessions at Barnes & Noble today. Great book, many pictures, great details, a good addition to my collection of Z trinkets. In the book is covers all generation Z's, from the first 240Z to the new 350Z and everything in-between. I got me wondering; What does a car have to have to be a real Z? It's more a badge and a marketing slogan than Nissan would want us to think it is. I know the first Z's recipe for success was a low price, good handling, modestly powerful (for the time), and a good dealership network that made them available. Plus, they were pure sports cars. It's semi-local, and from what I can see, seems to be in good shape. I understand the issues with the 260 series, and would plan on swapping in a L28, which from what I've read is a pretty straightforward swap. (78 280z) Hey guys, im aquiring a 4.11 rear end, and a 5 speed transmission. I was wondering how much better will my acceleration be if i go from a 3 speed auto-3.54 rear end, 70 series tires. To a 5 speed-4.11 rear end, 60 series tire? Will it be noticeable? Thanks guys! Also, whats the average going price for a r-200 4.11 rear end? I dont wanna get ripped off.

Can i do this? I heard most cars from the 70s + can run on this stuff without problems, but i wanted to be sure before i do it. Right now its about $.10 cheaper than normal gas so i thought i might try and save some $$ by using it. I didn't see anything in the manual about it.

I got a free 280Z about a month ago and finally got off my tail to do something with it. I am planning to pull the drivetrain to put into my 72 240. Charged up the battery and turned the key. It started. Previous owner said that it has been sitting for over a year. I ran it out of gas so I guess it is time to clean the tank and fuel filter. Looks like a good canidate for a fuel injected 240. I guess I have a lot of 280 excess parts. Let me know if anyone is looking. I am keeping the driveline complete for myself and one fender for the 240. Good doors and some misc interior parts. Good summer teardown project.
