speed cameras 1 2

Mike mentioned Autralia's use of speed cameras in another post...don't get me started. They are termed "revenue raisers" nowadays and most state governments plan their yearly budgets to include a healthy few million $$ from these devices. Interestingly, the powers that be contnue to quote statistics ad-nauseum about how the cameras have reduced the accident rate. As we who have befallen the speed cameras can tell them, the cameras only give an accurate picture on straight, flat, wide, open roads in good lighting conditions when there is only a single car in view. In other words, positive identifications of a car exceeding the speed limit can only be made in ideal (read…

Alohas all, Just wanted to ask what seems to be the average overall cost of restoring a Z to decent daily driver condition. I know it depends on what the starting condition of the car is, but let us just say its your average Z that's seen better days. I'm a VW guy right now, but I'm thinking about getting into Z cars and just want a ballpark figure of what I COULD spend. mahalos, Joel

Boy! that seems to be the most popular"new to Z question" and there is nothing wrong with that. Please allow me to present a question that is seldomed ask but very important. How do I make it STOP!! Those that have been restoring cars awhile know the true meaning to that question. The excitement of a new cool car is quite a pump! Please remember, these brake systems are OLD!Hoses rot, lines clog,of course Z rear wheel cylinders leak etc.,somewhere a guy turned those rotors just one time to many. Wanna swap/rebuild a motor, cool, wanna risk your family, yourself and of course last, your money and efforts by thinking, rebuild a brake system that seems to be fine or those carbs and …

Got my gas tank back today. The tech said that it was really cruddy inside with lots of debris and rust. It came back with red primer. Before refinnishing it was very dirty so I could not tell what the original paint was like. It sort of looked like semi gloss. What is the best paint for it? I imagine it has to be something durable. Also the straps look good except they also need repainting. The fabric is o.k. Is the fabric available if I want to replace it?

i got a 240z when i turned 17. i had a minimum wage job, and school. the car cost me $2,800 and i paid for it in full on the fourth of July. with money i saved for a year. getting it to run reliably was expensive, but well worth it! i probebly had less time to work on it(1 to 2 hours or less a week). borrow the caprice, save your money, get the fairlady back on the road later! now ive had this car for over a year, and its the most reliable car out of 3 others that are newer at my house. but it looks like you want to give up! i bet my car will out live your caprice in reliability and, its value will continuosly go up, the caprice will go down. what are you going to do wh…

It has been mentioned the structure of the 240z is not as strong as the later models, has anyone had problems with this?

Does anyone know if you can add an entire A/C system to a '73 240Z that came from the factory without? I am contemplating this matter considering how warm it has been this summer but just don't know if it's possible. Any responses would be appreciated!

-- Group Message from "Wayne Burstein" <wburstein@genicom.com> -- While both have their uses, I gave my ramps away years ago because I need the jack and jackstands and don't have the room for both. You do have to be a little careful with jacks and stands as Richard posted. Here is a little story I posted to the IZCC list a few years ago that is worth another look: I used to crew for a guy that raced a 240Z and every time a wheel came off the car, we had to slide it under the rocker panel until the car was taken off the jack/stands. This became a habit that undoubtedly saved my life. I was at the track tightening up the bolts at the rear of the differential when t…

What are some uses that you have used it for in your Z?

Motor Trend TV (on Speed channel and some others) is showing review of the 350Z that includes about 5 min profile of the 240, 260 and 280... Funny info... said after introduction in 1970 the demand for Zs was so high that Blue Book value for one year old Z in 1971 was $500 more than retail for a new one. How bad were dealers gouging back then? I remember paying $1000 over list for a Prelude during the Honda gold rush in the 80s because you had to practically sleep with a Honda dealer to get a car. (I waited six months, too)
