I've owned an early '71 (8/70, 8325) since 1975. I've moved since the purchase, so the title does not show the original owner. The serial number VIN does't work in today's VIN checkers. I've attempted to contact the selling dealer, with no luck. (I understand that it was the first Z that they sold.) Since I was 19 at the time, I didn't keep my sales receipt from when I bought it from the first owner. I'm open to all suggestions on where to go from here. What have you done to document the history of your car? DannDZ

So, I know I need to replace me current engine. I’ve considered rebuilding it but I’m also considering replacing it. I found an engine about 5 months ago at a salvage yard F52/P79 from an 82 ZX. I put $20 down to hold it. Total cost delivered to my house is $480. Wanted to build a mild performance engine...nothing crazy that’s not a turbo. This engine has 165k miles on it and is warranted to run. After pricing out all the parts I’m looking at around $1000 in parts to build back stock. Fast forward, was on CL today and ran across this engine for $2500. Says is a performance L-28 with all the specs. When I look at $1500 total to buy and build a stock engin…

Subject: early '77 280Z. Today's Query is a multi-parter... - Any opinions about whether the console and it's armrest/lid shell are of a Styrene plastic? - Has anyone ever felt the need, by necessity ("stripped" screws no longer holding the bottom finisher (a not-Styrene) to the top (Styrene) shell) or OCD urge, to disassemble the console armrest/lid? - Were you crestfallen to discover that most (especially those for the lid hinges) of the top shell's (Styrene) cast-in screw socket posts, were broken/shattered hulks of their former configuration? - Has anyone attempted repair/replacement? That worked? - If so, would anyone in this narrow clas…

I thought this was impressive. The 'Main Street America' car show sponsored by the Corvette Owners Club of San Diego was held last weekend at Sea Port Village. Probably close to 300 cars there. Taking first place in the 60-70's modified class was this 240Z. Yes, he was in the same group as the Vette's, Camaro's and Mustangs. Incredible. I had my roadster at this show about 5 years ago and it was pretty much ignored as it is primarily an American car show. Nice to see the Z's getting some attention. Pics below are from cars final build at Miguel's shop, paint by Miguel of course.

Anyone know of a knowledgeable 240z mechanic in the area who can do a pre-purchase inspection?

I'm also working on car #503 right now. This car is in absolutely amazing condition. It's is the most original rust-free car I've seen and I've worked on hundreds of them. Unfortunately, it had a repaint many years ago that is not holding up so I'm getting the car ready to go to paint. This car is in such original condition, except for some hoses and hose clamps, I thought I would post it in case someone was restoring one and needs to see any original details. I'd be glad to post any pictures. This car even has the original water pump.

So when is the best time to sell a Z? I guess it isn't late July or Aug., or is everybody so well connected these days with their phones that the summer lull doesn't exist anymore? Just finished the 280z I have been working on so time to put it up on the block to fund the next project( I still have the 240z and will never sell it) The selling venue, ebay is where I sold my first 240 and although the guy who bought it was a bit of a nightmare I did pretty well on it. BaT is hot these days but they always want a low reserve to ensure a sale and it doesn't happen very often but I have seen guys in the peanut gallery go on about some imagined fault to the point of…

75 280Z was running before I swapped my 5 speed, engine was rebuilt 1 year ago and running fine but I don't know if timings are correct never care to check it. Now my idiotic mind played. So upon the process I did replaced oil pan gasket, rear main seal and the oil pump gasket because it is leaking oil everywhere. I know that I had to put engine in TDC before removing the oil pump, now my mistake I forgot to put it back correctly so it probably messed up the timing??? Second I pressure washed the bay because I want it to be clean after the swap. Now swap is completed, crank the engine, spark yes, fuel yes. Engine sputters and won't run. Went back to fix oil…

Hi all, Are the wrinkles in the pic from the factory (this is a 11/69 240Z) or should this area be smooth? Thanks!
