Hi all, I've been hanging around here daily for several weeks, gathering information for my refreshment project. I've started a blog to document it, which will hopefully help others out. It won't be too technical, but instead should organize the technical information and parts sources that I've been using on my project. This should be some help to others doing a similar project. Thanks go out to everyone who participates on this and other Zcar forums. Your contributions make it easier to preserve and enjoy our cars. Keep writing. Matt

I am new to the site. I am a newbie to all this stuff. I am a married father of 3 kids ages 12,10,8. I recently purchased a green 1976 280z from the original owner with 119k. The body is in great shape and for the most part the engine too (except rotten vac lines). No rust on the vehicle but the owner let her sit for about year before deciding to sell her to me. I owned a 76 z as a kid and have been looking to replace it ever since. I am not a mechanic but am handy so I am going to start my new midlife hobby of fixing her up and driving her around. Then restoring her one part at a time over the rest of my life. I have my Manufactures Service Manual and my EFI bible and t…

Hi Everyone, I'm a previous owner of a 72 240z and 76 280z. Now that I'm 25years older, wiser and wishin that I never sold my 72 240z, I'm looking at buying another. I'm looking for a little advice on my potential purchase. The attached picture is the engine bay of the car I am looking at. It's a 72 240Z with A/C. The area I am concerend about is the right strut tower with the circle around it. When I looked at the car, I noticed that the black "cylinder" (that I have highlighted in the blue circle) was rubbing on the engine plate. I thought that was odd so I've been looking at a lot of pictures trying to see if this is stock. So far, I have not found a single pictu…

I bought my first Z last Thursday. 1981 280 ZX Turbo (blue with silver hood). Aired up the tires, comalonged it onto a trailer and hauled it home. By the time I got it home, 3 of the tires were flat again. I was told by the PO that it needed a fuel pressure regulator and rack and pinion. Put new battery in next day and when I tried to start # 2 injector hose leaked. It looks like the hose is factory made onto the injector. Can that be cut off of the injector and replaced or do I have to buy a new one? I have a little work to do on the car but it will be fun and even more fun to drive. I had a buddy that had a new 82zx and a new 84 300zx so I know they are fun to drive. Of…

I just picked up a 1972 240z last week, and it needs some work. The dash has major cracks, of course, and the glove box cover is broken in half. I picked up a replacement dash, with only minor cracks, and an intact glove box. So far, this site has helped a lot guide me through some of the steps, so thanks for the thorough posts. If anyone out there wants to share info about dash replacement ... I am sure I could use the help. Thanks. Vile

Hi, I am from Ohio, and i got my 240z when i was 14. I have had my 1972 240z for about 5 years now, and have had many other cars but the Z is still my first car. The car was in really bad shape as it had been taken apart by a teenager 10 years before i got the car and then sat. Had the outside of the car redone with new metal welded in, in rust spots. Painted the car with Lemans Sunset paint, and have been working on getting it back on the road ever since. I tried seriously to get it on the road last summer but ran into a lot of problems. The main one being that the car decided it didn't want to start after sitting for about a year. It will turnover but wont fire. It just…

Hey All, Just picked up a 1975 280Z Green, black interior, 84K original miles, w/ only one small quarter sized rust spot which isn't deep. Traded my cancer laden 1964 Chevy stepside for it straight up. Guy I traded with bought the car from the original California owner back in 2004, and only put 100 miles on it. A good friend of mine that has a couple of these, and has restored several, gave it a good going over, and is going to go from stem to stern on it to tweak up to speed. He commented on the rare color, the white stock seats, and the unusual bumpers...it was built in 5/1974, so does that make it a 1974 1/2? I think the only three things on it not stock are the…

hi, i'm matt and i've just joined the club. I joined because i'm about to buy a 1973 datsun 240Z. I'm a 25 yr old squaddie with a keen interest in classics and have always wanted a 240Z. It's a lot of money for me so any advice i can get on this purchase i'd be grateful for. The body work seems sound, no blistering paintwork, no rust in door jams or around the boot lid, can't see any in the engine bay, inside is nice too with the seats and upholstery in good condition. The car has done 76,000miles. MY MAIN CONCERN is the chassis, i can't inspect that, are there any tell tale signs? Thankn you very much for your time. matt

As the title says, I need an official ruling. I recently picked up a 70 from the estate of a guy in California. The guy who died was the original owner. After his death all papers for his cars were transferred to his estate executor including the title for the z. I know that "technically" the estate was the second owner but does that really count when bragging about my Z? Thanks for looking! John
