It was runnning real rich but after a few fixes, semi new radiater out of a junk yard (lucky there) it is running better. I am hoping to auto cross the car. I have lwarned a lot from looking around here and hope to learn more. Lucky for me a friend works ast the local nissan dealer. BTW they still carry ingition switches for the 240Z. I orderd one this week. /next order of business is learn to weld and repalce some rusted parts. :nervous: Thanks all for helping out a new guy.

I used to own an 84 300zx, but because I was young and an idiot at the time, I sadly killed the car. Since then I have been looking for another. I bought a 280zx online a few years ago on ebay for $500. I drove down state to pick it up and it didn't drive at the time. I took it home took a few parts off to see what conditions they were in, and to my discovery, the distributer cap was rusted. I went to Autozone, picked up a new one, car starts right up! oh yeah. So here I am 2 years later, and finally making enough money to get my baby into shape. I have a few questions for any Z owners in the D/FW area of Texas, if anyone knows of a good body shop that has experience with…

Hi Everyone. My name is Jake. I'm new to these forums but have been obsessed with the Z Cars since I was 5. My Mom owned a 1977 280z when I was 5, I'm 24 now and I have never stopped liking them. I have owned 4 Z cars I picked them all up VERY cheap. The most expensive one was my 83 280zx N/A 5 speed, I traded a car for it and I had paid $250 for the car. The car I currently own is a 1981 280zxt with 70,000 original miles on it and a manufacture date of 12/1980. I paid $110 for the car w/o the motor or transmission. I was about to drop the motor and trans. from the 83 into the turbo body, when I found an add on craigslist for a complete turbo motor for $800 obo. So no…

I picked up the car, drove it home. it runs great. everything seems to run fine and it feels really tight. the only body rust i found is a quarter sized patch behind the mudflap of the driverside rear tire. the car is a '79 280ZX with 5 speed stick shift. the seller said it was fuel injected. i assumed it was machanical fuel inection seeing how its a 79 but it apears to be electronic. the whole car looks engineered ahead of its time. looks like 4 wheel disc brakes, ind. rear suspension, really sporty little car. im very happy with the buy. the origional paint is faded on top of the hood but shiny everywhere else. interior is in excellent condition. manual steering. 55,000…

I just bought a '79 280Z. This is the firs Z car I've owned. These cars first caught my intrest as a lightweight alternative to swap my 400hp chevy small block/th350 combo into. its a hot little motor but it just smokes the tires on my 3800lb '68 c10 chevy truck. So i was looking for a Zcar for the swap and i ran across the '79 280. its a stickshift straight 6 with low miles, its in excellent condition inside and out. even the rubber weather stripping is good. i cant see the point in tearing it apart for a motor swap, its in to nice of condition. really cool looking car. ill drive it home tomarrow, ill post some pictures.

Hello everyone! I'm looking to buy a Z soon (as soon as I sell my silly PT Cruiser), but I've hit a bit of a dilema. I was hoping maybe you experienced owners out there could offer some advice. I'm having trouble deciding between a pre-smog 240Z, or a 280Z (maybe '82-'83 turbo). From what I've come to understand, I could do anything I wanted to a 240, but until I can afford to modify or convert the engine, I'm looking at worse gas mileage than the 280, and not nearly as much Go-Go. The 280zx on the other hand, gets better gas mileage, and has more power, but there are a lot more limitations on what I can do to it. I've also been told that the carb engine is easier…

Posted in the electrical section before I saw this section. So, just saying Hi. New to the Z game and I can already tell that this forum ROCKS! It is obvious that there is a HUGE amount of info and knowledge here. I am 42 years old and I've been a car freak since I was about 10 when my brothers had me helping them with their cars. I am going to be "renovating" a 71' 240Z and will be searching this forum high and low for info. My other hobbies are a 96' Impala SS (once totaled - now fully custom) and fly-fishing (not necessarily in that order! ) Thank you for making this information available! How did we ever survive without these forums in the past??? Tim Reinha…

Hey Yall, just wanted to intro myself, I'm 48 yrs old and have been running my 80 280Zx now for three Years, how I made it b4 the Z, hunh! this thing is nothing but fun very few problems with over 250k on the speedo. did miss entering the SEZ shootout because I cleaned the engine bay and got somthing wet I shouldn't of. runs great again now that its dry! also have a 78 280 in the first stages of big fix. Yard is full with 3 more 300 z's all from the 80 (1running, 2 not) I'm sure these cars have rabbits in 'em cause they keep multiplying! looking forward to reading the forums for the great advice and info Yall have a good'un!

Hi, My name's Ross and I'm obviously suffering from mid-life crisis! In 1980 I bought a '73 240Z and loved it to bits! It had stuffed shocks and boiled at the drop of a hat but it was probably the best car I've ever owned. Always hankered for another however, the prices kept going up and the condition (the r-word) kept going down. Last week I bit the bullet and bought the best one I could afford (or the cheapest my ego could tolerate, whatever). I've forgotten everything I used to know - which wasn't much - about these, so the learning curve is going to be long and steep. Please forgive in advance what may be some fairly silly questions. This is the beast, it has a…

Hi I just started looking at Z cars as my wife told me that she always wanted one. I have been working on cars on and off since I first started driving. Until recently it was about survival and not fun. A little over a year ago a friend of mine talked me into getting a Miata as a project car. I always wanted to drive a car on the track and I knew it wasn’t going to be my daily driver (too stressful). Well the timing belt snapped less than a month after we got the car and that kicked off my mechanical learning curve. After successfully completing a timing belt change (including all seals, water pump etc.) I started diving into every other aspect of the car. Pretty much e…

i am new here. i have a late 74 260z that i have had for going on 3 years now it was almost perfect when i got it which i was pretty amazed being that was bought in ohio and has always been an ohio car. i am the second owner of it the po added 70-71 SU carbs to it. The body of the car is perfect no rust at all. the only spots that are in need of help are the floor pans and the spare tire well need replaced. I just recently got done putting a new water pump and radiator in the car. Its great all the info i can find on this site i love it.
