Hi. I am restoring a 77 280Z. I am trying to repair the windshield washer/ headlight switch. When I received the car, the headlight switch was broken and had been glued back together before being put back onto the stem. This can be seen in the attached picture. Will the windshield washer fluid button pop off so that I can slide this piece back on or will I have take it apart from the other side. I guess I am wondering what the easiest solution is before I spend to much time on this? Thank you for your help. Chris

On a test drive today after repairing new injector with bad factory crimp, the short hose from thermostat housing line to manifold blew going 80 mph. Instant steam everywhere. I hobbled off the exit and parked ASAP. The temp gauge pegged. The driver side of the engine bay was pretty soaked. After I repaired the hose and got some water in it, it started and got me home but it ran rough all the way. Do you think its running rough because some things are wet or is it possible I did some more serious damage? 77 280Z n2deep

Im in the midst of rebuilding my cylinder head. Im going to be using the "C" cam for my rebuild, I haven't been able to find anything online about this but in the Datsun rebuild book it says for stock cams use the first notch on the cam sprocket for timing. But a moderately aggressive cam you would use the second notch and so fourth. My question is...Would you use the first or second notch for the "C" cam? I know it came on early 260z's as a stock cam. But it is mildly aggressive since it's a Datsun Competition cam. What would be better for the build? I'm just slightly confused:stupid: Alex

Hi Everyone, I purchased a 72 240z project and now I'm trying to put it together. The PO has bolts all over the place and in misc bags. As of now I am installing the steering column and the radiator. I bought some bolts from Black dragon but they do now have the bolts for the steering column to the firewall, or the radiator bolts(shroud and firewall). Does anyone have a list of sizes for all the bolts? Thanks for your help!

Hi all, Been lurking on the site for a bit and finally found the baby I really want to buy, but I'm hesitant. I'm ordering an inspection from AIM this week; I'll update the thread with the results when I get it. The owner assures me it's rust free (yeah, yeah heard that before ), no problems at all but cracked sidewalls on the tires, said he's only owned it two years and doesn't know much about the history of owners or repairs (and he has a very thick accent and is hard to understand so I couldn't really understand what he does know), he had the convertible top done himself and says the only bondo on the car is involved in the frame reinforcement somehow (didn't quite un…

Alright so when I drove my datsun with bad(really bad) brakes when I put the brake pedal down all sorts of clicking noises came from under the passenger side of the dash, like a relay only really fast. But now that I fixed the brakes that doesn't happen anymore. But when the key is in the "run" position, and while it is running, there is a relay click sound every ten seconds, under the dash on the passenger side, it sounds like its coming from this cluster of relays. I also hear a relay click every time I hit the horn. My question is, do all 260zs make this many relay cluck sounds or is there something wrong? If its normal, then fine but if its not, then WTH?

So finally got done with the rear brakes, front struts(among other things) carb swapping and other odds and end, and decided I needed to test her out even just once around the block. I've driven it around the block before, but that was a week after first start, with no power(bad carbs), bad struts, and no back brakes. That was horrible and scary, this however was great! Runs a little rough yet, but pulled hard, steering felt really tight, and nice. Rear struts are still bad and there was alot of crashing and sqeaking back there, so that's next. Then came the brakes, they stopped me good, but I expected a little better, and when I hold them on idle drops about 250 rpms,an…

First things first my 72 240z will not start and stay running at all. Since I purchased it almost three years ago it has slowly got harder and harder to start. I'm totally new to carburetors and need some help. I'm checked a few things and got an idea that the carbs are the problem. Engine (from the documentation I have) L28 with what I believe is the original L24 head Some type of Camshaft Upgrade Header Port/Polish SU Round top Carbs Pertronix Ignition/Coil To start this winter I replaced the points and coil with the Pertronix parts. My idea was to do this and tune the car up in the spring well come spring and it won't start. I went through the list of things I would d…

My headlight switch does always (usually not) turn on the marker and tail lights when I turn the the headlights. I saw a post from 2012 (http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/help-me/44812-77-280z-windshield-wiper-headlight-switch.html) that said Dave Irwin (from this club) was the man to contact. I tried sending Dave a private message, but it was kicked back as Dave could not be found. Does anyone have info on getting the switch repaired? I saw rebuilt ones available from ZCarSource. BTW, the car is a 75 280Z (I'm the original owner). Also, I'm a new member (yesterday), so if I'm not doing something correctly, please let me know. Thanks, Walt (member Walt75280Z)

I have been driving this car for a few days. Today on my way to work, I started hearing loud clunking noises from the rear passenger side. I pulled over, and checked to make sure the lugs were tight. They were. I drove it another 20 feet still with the clunking. I came back to it after work and the tire was flat. It must have been a slow leak. I didnt notice pressure loss when I was checking the lugs. This clunking was felt through the car. I am going to get the tire repaired in the morning. I need a few things to look for when I go to fix it Eric in Montana
