I have a 1980 280zx with automatic. Just came upon a 1980 donor car with 5spd. How much trouble to convert. What pitfalls might I encounter in the switch? Any and all opinions/help/advice welcome.

I live in California and failed the visual inspection part of the smog because the technician couldn't find the C.A.R.B. oe number for my headers. Did they even have CARB numbers back in the 70s? (1976 280z).

Hello, i bought a 71 datsun 240z that has a l26 with i believe su carbs on it, and a 5 speed in it. I noticed today that there seem to be a couple of vacuum hoses that are either just open or plugged, i took some pictures to see if it helps someone figure this out. I hooked up the vacuum control on the distributor but really didn't notice any difference in the change of idle. The car is idling between 1000-1200rpm's after warm up, im not sure if thats normal or not. Also the car seems to be running really rich. also, is there a good manual that i can buy for this car that someone can recommend. Thanks for the help in advance. Thanks, Albert

First of all, I finally got a 240Z a couple days agao and am pretty excited to get started on it. It currently doesn't run, so that is first on my list of priorities. It hasn't been driven in years (last inspection sticker/plate was in '07) and so I'm not to interested in trying to go out and turn it over just yet. What I'm considering doing is buying the Fel-Pro gasket kit from summit racing http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEL-FS21157PT/Application/?prefilter=1 so i can replace all the gaskets and seals. I also got a bunch of spare parts to go with it and one of the items is an E88 head from a 260Z. I was wanting to practice setting the valve clearances on this head bu…

I am new to this Forum. I own a '72 240Z that I purchased new in November of 1972 but I just recently picked up a restored '71 that has triple Mikunis and I was wondering if there is a good supplier of parts for these units that I could count on. I also need a manual for these carbs, as well. Any thought would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. DH

Replaced my head gasket with a friend that has done it before on his 240z. I have a 76 280z. after everything was put back together it would not start. My question is do I have to redo the ignition timing? I already timed it with the oil pump and the rotor was facing the #1 on the cap. And my engine was also at tdc. Do I have to use a timing light and retime the distributor even though it was already timed before I pulled everything out? thank you

I am trying to resurrect a 75 280Z that has been sitting for several years. Traced wiring, replaced coil, tested wiring, following Chilton manual. It will run on carb cleaner. With a hot wire connected to the fuel pump I have fuel to the injectors. I tried a noid light and found no injector trip. Computer bad?

ok, probably a few silly questions but not getting too much help with info, so I'll try again here. I have 72 240. 1) motor block is stamped 'L26' not 'L24" so im thinking its 2.6litre block right? yes?no? found a ATK ENGINES tag on the block, so im pretty sure i have a rebuilt crate motor here. 2) head is e88, i've been schooled with the differences in various e88 heads, so i think i have that straight. 3) su carbs, three bolt round tops. so what im thinking is someone has replaced the motor, and probably kept the original intake set-up. I just finished a major tune-up. everything from points, condens. to dwell timing, ignit timing, valve gap adjustment. seems to be runni…

It is common knowledge that Mallory ignition modules do not really care for too much voltage. The instructions that came with my new dizzy say to hook up the red power wire to the 12 volt ignition source. Well on my car that was 13.8 volts... Poof went the first module. Fast forward 90 dollars later with a new ignition module, and the instructions with that replacement module say hook up the red wire to the opposite side of the ballast to the 12 v ignition source. Problem here is my ballast resister puts out like 12.4 volts down from 13.8 This would probably smoke the new resister. I have an extra OEM ballast I can hook up in series to the Mallory ballast that may step …
