So I did something stupid after replacing my brake booster and master cylinder. I forgot that I had removed one of the drums and got in the car and pumped the brakes. The absence of the drum allowed the piston in the wheel cylinder to overextend and it pushed the its rubber boot loose a bit, causing a squirt of fluid on the garage floor. I was able to push the boot back where it goes and reposition the clip to hold it, but the piston won't go back inside the cylinder far enough to let the pads retract enough to get the drum back on. I cracked the bleeder to release pressure, hoping this would help, but no joy. Am I going to have to pull off the wheel cylinder, …

I am starting to rebuild my 240z seats and I remember seeing an article by hardway - which is in the knowledge base. There are a number of pictures which prove to be helpful. Unfortunately I did not print out a copy when I looked at it the last time. When I bring the article up where thepictures are supposed to be is a message saying that they are "not available". double click the picture below to go to the article and see the missing images. Can someone explain if there is a temporary problem with the website or is it an issue with my laptop settings...etc. Thanks in advance for your assistance. regards, qz16

So my z is idling to high and there is a hole where it looks like a screw should be in that when plugged up makes my car idle normally. I can't for the life of me find what goes hooked up to it or if I should plug it up. Can you guys help me out?

Hi mates I have a weird issue I hope someone can help me with. A few months ago I installed a brand new master cylinder and a complete rear disk brake conversion (with SS lines). I have a weird issues where it seems that the front brake reservoir is draining into the rear one. Example. This evening I drove my Z from my parents place back to mine, roughly 30 minutes of driving. When I was leaving the front brake reservoir was on Low and the rear one was on full. Get to my house and the rear one is completely overflowing and the front one is slightly lower then it was before. Is it possible that I have some sort of back flow issue here? This isn't the first time this ha…

Im cleaning as much of the transmission as i can but i dont really know of any good product to use so i going a little slow. Is the hole is going to have any negative impact? How can i fix it as to prevent the spread and maybe cover it?

The car in question is a 1971 240z with a 280z engine and 280zx distributor.I'm currently having some issues getting spark from my 6A MSD. At one point, the car did run fine with this exact setup and wiring shown in the attachment to this post (and here: https://www.classiczcars.com/uploads/monthly_2016_10/1918msd_zx_240z_1r2.jpg.9235e4af03e7d71e6584ff639ad81311.jpg) . However, the car currently isn't starting with this configuration. I was having some stuttering issues in the past, and the last two times I took the car out, it died and had to get towed home. The car seems to run fine if I bypass MSD entirely and wire the ignition module and tach directly to the coil. With…

Reinstalling the propeller shaft. It’s been a year since I removed and cleaned it, so I can’t remember if it is just lubricated by transmission fluid, or if it needs its own grease. Should I be greasing before I insert this back into the trans?

I got brave today and took my headlight switch apart to clean up the contacts, as the switch was working sporadically. Everything went great till I realized I had an extra part left once it was all put back together. The part is a very small plastic bushing that apparently keeps metal parts from shorting against each other. I believe there is a total of 3 of these in the whole mechanism. I have no question where two of them go (they hold down and isolate the two headlight switches from the contact for the wiper washer. I guess the third one fell out when I was disassembling it and I did not see where it came from. Now when I flip the switch I blow the 20 amp fuse, so ther…

It seems like my L28 engine with SU Carbs wants to run away to high RPM at idle. I'm new to tuning, so I might be missing something obvious. The timing gun starts out at high hundreds of RPMs, but grows quickly to above 1200 or 1300 RPM, and I get spooked and cut the ignition. I've been using this as a guide for tuning: https://zcarguide.com/tuning-adjusting-datsun-240z-su-carburetors/ My fast-idle is backed-off, and it looks like the butterfly-valves are mostly closed. Both idle adjustment screws are backed off. I followed the guide to lift the mixture screws underneath the carbs fully up and then backed them off two revolutions. Choke …

Hi I read the couple of articles here at 240z.org about rear control arm bushing replacement, but I've recently taken my two rear control arms for my 240z to the machinist and hes going to operate tomorrow. I bought an aftermarket Energy Suspension bushing kit. The bushing kit has an inner sleeve but no inner sleeve in the kit. Its roughly the exact size for the control arm if I remove the outer sleeve that is still stuck in there. Problem is I've taken a hack saw to part of the inner sleeve on one of the control arms. I didn't get to finish the job and the machinist said he could repair it. The machinist is going to clean out the sleeves leave all the outer sleeves…
